- I’m writing this after my night shift so I apologize for any grammatical mistakes in here- Hi guys, I just need some advice from any peeps that transioned from the ED to the ICU. Long story short, I’m struggling in the mornings at giving report to the morning nurse when the patient has been in the Hospital for a long time (over a month) I’m still in orientation, about to come off in a couple of weeks. I’m a safe nurse but I really REALLY don’t know how to give ICU report, my brain is wired into the ER mindset. I’ve been doing my best at changing my habits. I’m very good at critical care during emergencies (I work at a Trauma 1 level center) and basically the sickest people of the State come to my Hospital and ICU. You guys have any advice for me or any particular stories of how you started, or what helped you to adapt? My ICU coworkers for the most part are very nice to me and give me good feedback. I feel like I belong here, but I also feel like I’m slacking. I have gotten good feedback from my preceptors and managers during one to ones, although my preceptors recognize that my biggest struggle is report and getting the story together. Maybe I’ll get easier once I’m off orientation on my own. Who knows… Any ICU peeps can also chip in Ty in advance to anyone that has advice for me. submitted by /u/Anilom2 [link] [comments]
