I'm a Self-Taught Namibian Developer, and I'm Building Something That Could Change How We Find Jobs 🇳🇦

Wait 5 sec.

Hi, fellow Namibians! I'm a self-taught web developer. Everything I know today, I taught myself through countless hours of learning, experimenting, making mistakes, and figuring things out. I don't have formal qualifications in software development, but that hasn't stopped me from building things I'm genuinely proud of. In fact, I've learned things I never imagined I'd be capable of. Now, I'm working on something much bigger. I'm developing a Namibian job and opportunity platform. And before you think, "Oh, not another job portal," hear me out. This isn't going to be just another website where you scroll endlessly through job advertisements, only to discover that half of them have already expired. We're building something different. Something smarter. Something that could genuinely change how Namibians discover and access opportunities. Here's the vision: Imagine a future where you don't have to spend hours searching different websites, Facebook pages, WhatsApp groups, and recruitment portals just to find a job. Instead, imagine a system that understands your qualifications, skills, experience, and interests, and helps connect you with opportunities that actually match your profile. In other words, I want us to reach a point where opportunities find us, rather than us constantly chasing them. That's the future I'm working towards. And here's something else. I don't want to build this behind closed doors and suddenly launch it one day. I want to share the journey with you, my fellow Namibians. From the early development stages to the challenges, mistakes, breakthroughs, and eventually the finished product. I want you to see how something that started as a simple idea can grow into a platform that could make a real difference in people's lives. So, why should you support this? Maybe you're already employed. Maybe you have a stable career and don't see yourself needing a platform like this. And that's perfectly fine. But think about your younger brother who's struggling to find his first job. Your sister who's looking for an internship. Your friend who's been unemployed for months. Or your cousin who has the qualifications but keeps missing opportunities because they never see them advertised. You might not need this platform today, but someone you care about might need it tomorrow. And that's exactly why I'm building it. Will it be free? Yes. My goal is to make the platform free for people searching for opportunities. I don't believe someone who's already struggling to find employment should have to pay just to discover opportunities. You might be wondering, "Then how will you make money?" Well, let's just say we're exploring ways to make the platform sustainable through the organisations and employers that provide opportunities, rather than charging job seekers. Now, I need your thoughts. I'm not here asking for money or donations. I'm here asking for something much more valuable: your support, honest opinions, and ideas. Would you use a platform like this? What frustrates you most about searching for jobs in Namibia? And what features would make your job search easier? Please don't hold back in the comments. I genuinely want to hear what you think, including your criticism. After all, what's the point of building something for Namibians without listening to Namibians? I've also started a WhatsApp channel where I share job opportunities, internships, bursaries, and other opportunities while the platform is being developed. The community is growing every day! If you'd like to join, just let me know in the comments, and I'll share the link. Let's build something that makes opportunities more accessible to every Namibian. 🇳🇦 Yours in programming, Friedrich 💻 submitted by /u/Ok_Concentrate_9990 [link] [comments]
