Protest planned over stalled Perundurai–Pasuvapatti road widening work - The HinduPublished - October 29, 2026 06:44 pm IST - ERODEThe Tharsaarbu Vivasayigal Sangam has called for a protest to draw the attention of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to the delay in widening the Erode–Palani Highway between Perundurai and Pasuvapatti, where unfinished work has caused severe traffic congestion and raised concerns over road safety.The widening work along the 15-km stretch was taken up in 2025. However, the road has been dug up on both sides, while deep pits have been excavated at more than 20 locations for the construction of wider bridges across waterways. The resulting narrow stretches and unfinished roadwork have disrupted traffic and increased the risk of accidents.According to the association, contractors have abandoned the work and removed their equipment from the sites. Despite representations to the authorities, work has not resumed, leaving commuters to grapple with traffic congestion for the past six months.Kangeyam MLA N.S.N. Nataraj, former Minister Thoppu N. Venkatachalam, Erode MP K.E. Prakash and various public welfare organisations have raised the issue with the district administration. Mr. Prakash also took it up at a district development meeting. The issue has been highlighted in the media and on social media, the association said.The proposed protest is intended to draw the Chief Minister’s attention to the prolonged delay during his visit to Perundurai on November 3. The association is mobilising farmers’ groups, traders’ associations, trade unions, political parties and social welfare organisations in Perundurai and Chennimalai unions to participate.Published - October 29, 2026 06:44 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
