HBO has just revealed a brand-new take on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After years of anticipation (and backlash), HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot is set to premiere at Christmas 2026. The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, alongside John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.Credit: HBOWhile audiences have criticized early footage for its similarities to the original film adaptations, some of the changes in the new iteration have also drawn backlash. For example, some fans reacted poorly to the new Hogwarts house logos for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Others criticized the new Hogwarts school uniforms. And now, fans are reacting to the new design for Hogwarts Castle itself.New Hogwarts Design, RevealedWe have our best look yet at the updated design for Hogwarts in a newly released poster. The castle is shown in the reflection of Harry’s glasses in an animated design that also gives us an up-close look at the new design for his famous lightning bolt scar.FIRST LOOK AT THE HOGWARTS CASTLE in HBO’s HARRY POTTER and the Philosopher’s StoneThe castle will officially differ from the one in the filmsFIRST LOOK AT THE HOGWARTS CASTLE in HBO’s HARRY POTTER and the Philosopher’s StoneThe castle will officially differ from the one in the films pic.twitter.com/MRLGf2NZgP— Wizarding World Direct (@WW_Direct) October 29, 2026The image also offers a glimpse of Hogwarts’ redesigned castle, which looks noticeably different from its big-screen counterpart. The new design appears to feature a denser collection of Gothic towers and pointed spires, giving the castle a more sprawling, imposing appearance than the familiar structure seen in the original eight films.Unlike a lot of the changes introduced so far, fans are reacting relatively positively to the new design.“The fact that the movie version, the Hogwarts Legacy version, and the Universal parks + other attraction parks have a similar style, I would imagine they wouldn’t wanna stray too far from them in the show,” one fan said on Reddit. “Personally I hope they don’t because I love it. It looks like they have spires and gothic architecture and stuff so looks like they’re on the right track, now we just gotta wait for the full view!”Another fan on X said, “New castle, same feeling. Still 11 and still waiting for my letter.”Credit: HBOOthers are slightly more apprehensive about the updated design.“I’ll get used to it,” one said. “Need more time to process it.”HBO has previously promised that the reboot will show us new areas of Hogwarts that were left unexplored in the films. While familiar locations such as the Great Hall will return, the reboot will also explore parts of Hogwarts never seen in the original films. Director Mark Mylod has previously confirmed plans to expand the castle’s interiors, including locations such as the Hogwarts staffroom. The production is also taking a different approach to the castle’s architecture. “We went with the idea that Hogwarts is a real place,” Mylod explained, revealing that the redesign will incorporate Georgian architecture and elements of naturalism to reflect how the ancient school has evolved over time. Are We About To Get a New ‘Harry Potter’ Trailer? With the new poster dropping the same week as Halloween, buzz is also growing around the possibility of a new spooky season-themed trailer. Halloween plays an important role in the Harry Potter franchise, with October 31 marking the day that Harry’s parents, James and Lily Potter, are killed by Lord Voldemort, and baby Harry defeats the Dark Lord for the first time.In the franchise’s first installment, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Halloween is also important as it marks the day that Harry, Ron, and Hermione solidify their friendship after confronting a rogue troll in the castle.Credit: UniversalNotably, HBO confirmed the casting of Lily and James Potter this week. Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn are set to step into the roles of Harry’s parents, both of whom tragically lose their lives in their early 20s. With the original films casting significantly older actors in the roles, fans have reacted positively to Talbot and Chinn taking over.HBO has yet to confirm who will play Lord Voldemort, with names such as Paul Bettany, Cillian Murphy, and Tilda Swinton previously linked to the role. Both Bettany and Murphy have denied their involvement. What do you think of the updated design of Hogwarts Castle? The post New Hogwarts Castle Revealed for ‘Harry Potter’ Ahead of Reboot appeared first on Inside the Magic.
