Marty, Rust and the Yellow Kings, (For those new to my writing, I always start with a pop culture hook/intro. Deal with it. Its funny.) The proliferation of grifting "get rich quick" gurus really soured people on self employment. People that wanted the easy button or that magical 7 figure blueprint found empty wallets and 4th grade level courses created by people that couldn't run a fucking lemonade stand (yes you, Tai Lopez and JT Foxx). Like many of you, I had the entrepreneurial bug. I used to sit in my cubicle and dream of being my own boss. To wake up when I wanted, to earn what I was worth. In 2016, podcasts were popping off and I started telling my own story going from high school and 2x college dropout to 6 degreed PhD. I then wrote and self published a book for teens. These two actions got me interviewed over 300 times and I still have interview requests rolling in. Its an interesting story about mindset and determination. So I thought, "If I can secure this much media and attention, why can't I do this for others?" So I did. A decade later, four business awards, hundreds of interviews and a few Hollywood level clients, I have reached a level that surprised even me. Here are my top tips for those of you that want to build something amazing. Strategy is everything Once a week I get out pens and graph paper and map out what my week looks like. I have quadrants: Income, Fitness, Leads, Interviews. This helps me to stay focused and track my appointments. Keep your VIPs sequestered I know about 12 millionaires. Their names are on a list and I make sure to contact them at least once a month and find out what they are working on. They in turn, promote me or offer me opportunities. You NEED high level people. I find most of mine on Facebook and just offer genuine friendship. Be the face of your company This is not for everyone. I am on FB, Reddit, Pinterest, TikTok, Youtube, X, Linkedin, Clapper, IG, and get interviewed about 2-3 times a month. I do live broadcasts 3x a week. Its important that people get to know you and feel like you are talking to them vs trying to sell something. I also speak at events and spend a lot of time promoting others. If you live like a celebrity, celebrity finds you. I shy away from the influencer bullshit, no one cares where I had lunch. The brand is important Don't sell low cost stuff unless you can move volume or have a HUGE audience. I started off with $12 Ebooks and realized quickly that I'd never have the life I desire at that price point. Price according to the strength of your brand and the quality of your goods/services. Develop those income streams This is your parachute. You're going to have bad months. Keep a few extra income streams in the back pocket for later. If I wasn't going to make rent, I would spend 3 days developing a zoom workshop teaching PR and sell tickets. Then I would call every millionaire I know and just have a conversation and see if they need anything. After that I would make a hard offer with price and pop it into an IG story with a clickable link. Every single day I would post a question on FB with a colored background that relates to my services. Every response is a lead. The point is, ALL of you can make money from air if you need to, you just have to figure out what design is best for you. The most important tip of all Don't be an asshole. Don't become cynical. If you find yourself constantly judging others or making shitty comments online, go work on your attitude. Go for a walk, read a book, hang out with friends, but a shitty attitude kills businesses. You'd be surprised how well a trip to the beach or the park can reset you. Hope this helps. Questions? submitted by /u/flyfightandgrin [link] [comments]
