Hypocritical Sergio Garcia statement ripped apart by golfer who narrowly lost DP World Tour card

Wait 5 sec.

Sergio Garcia has been slammed by Eddie Pepperell for leaving LIV Golf and returning to the DP World Tour next season.Garcia confirmed on Thursday that he is also eyeing a spot on the PGA Tour after departing the bankrupt breakaway.Garcia is returning to the DP World Tour next season after openly criticising other pros when leaving for LIV Golf in 2022GettyThe 46-year-old had already had his LIV contract terminated earlier this month amid the league’s 2.0 restructure. But now he has officially confirmed his next move, revealing he’s heading back to the DP World Tour after four years. However, Garcia being allowed back onto the tour will not have sat well with some of the pros that never left for LIV in 2022.Pepperell, who just finished 101st in DP World Tour standings, narrowly missed out on tour card for next season, as only the top 100 in the rankings regained it.It means he will have to go through Q-School or receive sponsor exemptions to feature in upcoming events. Meanwhile, Garcia, despite leaving the tour four years ago and openly bad-mouthing those that didn’t depart for LIV, will be straight back into the action. And Pepperell has now hit out at the 2017 Masters champion in reply to the latter’s statement confirming his return.‘This has to be Sergio trolling us?’As part of a longer statement, Garcia wrote on social media on Thursday: “This off season, I’m working really hard on my game and putting a big focus on a strong mindset and my mental health.“Next season I’ll be playing on the DP World Tour. This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning and I’m proud to call it home again. I’m also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour.”But Pepperell didn’t believe a word the Spanish star said, questioning whether it was a real statement.View Tweet: https://t.co/Of1CMC01KlPepperell, who just missed out on a DP World Tour card for next season, isn’t having Garcia’s statementGettyThe 35-year-old wrote in reply on X: “This has to be Sergio trolling us? Surely. Elite level s***housery, this.“Or has he got dementia?”Garcia’s hypocritical commentsAnother reason behind Pepperell’s dig is that Garcia had previously taken aim at other pros when first departing. He had said following a fine and a ban from the Scottish Open due to his exit four years ago: “This Tour is s***, you’re all f*****, should have taken the Saudi money.”His explicit rant criticised the players remaining on the PGA Tour for not leaving to take the huge money on offer at LIV Golf.It was estimated that Garcia was paid a $40million signing fee for joining the Saudi-backed breakaway league.Garcia openly slammed the PGA Tour when leaving, but now he wants to make a comeback – and Pepperell isn’t having itGettyBut as well as stating his intention to now return after those comments, Garcia’s caption will have frustrated Pepperell.Garcia wrote above his statement: “In golf, everything is earned and nothing is given. Let’s get to work.”But when joining LIV, the 2008 Players Championship winner was ‘given’ $40m just for signing up and without earning it. His words certainly seem hypocritical and Pepperell, who will now have to watch Garcia play on the DP World Tour while he misses out, has clearly taken an issue with them.
