Coimbatore Bar Association calls for boycott over shifting of munsif courts - The HinduUpdated - October 30, 2026 11:10 pm IST - COIMBATOREAn emergency General Body Meeting of the Coimbatore Bar Association (CBA) held on Friday called for a boycott of court proceedings by its member lawyers for three days over the decision to shift munsif courts from the combined court complex to a commercial building at Tatabad in the city.According to CBA sources, a letter from the District Judge dated October 28, 2026 informing the shifting of munsif courts due to structural damages in the colonial-era heritage building that houses multiple courts, was received by the association around 3 p.m. on Thursday (October 29, 2026). A second letter dated October 29 was received on the same day.CBA passed a resolution condemning the action of the Judicial Administration for deciding to relocate munsif courts currently functioning within the integrated court complex hastily, without prior notice, without giving sufficient time, and without consulting the association.It unanimously passed a resolution demanding the Judicial Administration to immediately halt all actions taken regarding the relocation of those courts. If the Judicial Administration does not immediately withdraw the plan, CBA members will abstain from court proceedings across all Coimbatore district courts until November 4, 2026.CBA sources added that another General Body Meeting will be held again on November 4 to decide on further courses of action.
