I've been looking at the Hiwonder MentorPi T1. Basically I want a little WALL-E style pet that follows me around my apartment and responds to things like “go to the kitchen”, “come here” or “do a twirl”. I don't want it needing internet or someone else's cloud to work. Everything needs to run on the robot. Renting a GPU to train it beforehand is fine. I've seen the NVIDIA/Disney robots and would love to experiment with training behaviours like that. I've coded for 20 years, but robotics is new to me. Electronics experience is mostly recapping old Mac SE/30 boards and repairing corroded traces, so some soldering is fine lol. Anyone done something similar? Is the Pi 5 8GB enough for offline voice, following and navigation together? If not, can I realistically add a Jetson or another accelerator? Happy to hear if there's a better robot to start with. submitted by /u/oulu2006 [link] [comments]
