I built AgentPilot because I was running Codex tasks and had no clean way to see what was running, what it was costing in tokens, or when something needed me — without sending my project data to another service. It's a VS Code extension (MIT, open source) with: - An AgentPilot-owned Codex chat you can start and resume from the sidebar - Token usage analytics (input / output / cached / reasoning, where the source exposes them) - A Smart Model Advisor — deterministic local recommendations with visible evidence, not a benchmark - VS Code, Windows, and optional Telegram notifications (metadata-only) - Everything local-first: metadata under %USERPROFILE%\.agentpilot, no prompts or source code stored, Telegram secrets in VS Code SecretStorage Two things I want to be upfront about: This is v1.0.0-rc.1, a release candidate — not stable v1.0. It's a VSIX from the GitHub pre-release, not on the Marketplace yet. 139/139 tests pass, but multi-window validation in the real world is still pending. It can't monitor private chats from the official Codex VS Code extension. It only watches supported Codex CLI hooks and sessions it starts and owns. If that's your main workflow, this won't see those chats — I don't want anyone installing it expecting otherwise. It currently targets Windows 11 + VS Code 1.90+, and you need an installed, authenticated native Codex executable. What I'd love feedback on: install it, run one real task through the AgentPilot-owned chat, and tell me where the usage numbers look wrong or where the Advisor's reasoning feels off. Screenshots of the dashboard, chat, and Advisor are in the README.
