ShareThe Premier League champions travel to Anfield this week as Arsenal look to bounce back from a shock loss in the Carabao Cup in mid-week. A resurgent Liverpool team could be a problem for the Gunners.By Sam McGuireThe story of the seasonLiverpool are going under the radar a little. The Reds are unbeaten with eleven men on the pitch this term. Their only defeat was after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for two bookable offences against Manchester City following the last international break. Under Andoni Iraola, they are three from three in the Champions League, they find themselves fourth in the Premier League and are into the next round of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea. All of this is even more impressive when you consider he’s had to adapt to multiple key injuries while bedding in a new style and levelling up the fitness of his squad. Performances haven’t been great but he’s done the one thing Arne Slot failed to do. He’s managed to get his £100million game-changers changing games. Florian Wirtz has been impressing lately while Alexander Isak is regularly putting the ball in the back of the net. It’s what they were signed to do and now they’re doing it. Arsenal, meanwhile, find themselves joint-top of the Premier League. They’ve won seven of their eight outings in the English top-flight, suffering one shock defeat to Brighton in September. Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in the Champions League, even claiming a 2-2 draw in Munich against Bundesliga giants Bayern. However, they did suffer a surprise exit on Tuesday as Fleetwood Town knocked the Gunners out of the Carabao Cup on penalties. A win at Anfield would be a statement. And that might be needed to restart momentum ahead of an important few weeks. Key PlayersFor the hosts, the focus will be on the attack. Both Isak and Bradley Barcola had been long-term targets for Arsenal before opting to move to Merseyside. Both have the ability to transform the outcome of a game and they’re starting to strike up an understanding. Barcola has assisted Isak in successive Premier League games while the Frenchman looked bright coming off of the bench against Chelsea in midweek. For the away side, they’re going to want to win the midfield battle. It’s been an area of weakness for Liverpool this term and if the visitors can get a foothold there, it’ll make life easier for them. Declan Rice would be pivotal in his team’s success on Sunday afternoon.Team NewsLiverpool are still without a host of names. Dominik Szoboszlai, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are all missing while Victor Munoz remains doubtful. Arsenal are without the suspended Max Dowman following his red card in the Carabao Cup. It does give Arteta a bit of a headache with Bukayo Saka also ruled out for the trip. The Gunners are also set to be missing Riccardo Calafiori, Christos Tzolis and William Saliba for the clash at Anfield. PredictionWe’re going with an old-fashioned 1-1 draw in this one.(Cover image from IMAGO)You can follow every game from the Premier League with FotMob this season — featuring deep stats coverage, xG, and player ratings.
