Gold rejects 4,071, retests 4,030: lower highs into the FedGoldOANDA:XAUUSDForexupgoQuick update on the breakout from yesterday, an hour before the Fed. What happened since: • Overnight gold pushed into the 4,066-4,074 zone I flagged yesterday, printed 4,070.8 and got sold straight away. • The drop ran all the way back to the old box top. Lows at 4,028.2 on two separate hourly candles, so the breakout retest held to the dollar. • The bounce from there stalled at 4,058 and then 4,060.2. That's a lower high under 4,070.8 (the white trend line). • Price is now ~4,042, sitting between the 21 MA (~4,048) and the 50 MA (~4,033) on the 1h. How I'm reading it: Structure is still bullish above 4,028-4,030. That level has now been tested and held, so it's the line in the sand into the decision. But momentum has cooled: two lower highs since the overnight top, and the 21 MA has started to flatten. Into 19:00 NL (decision) and 19:30 (press conference): • An hourly close back above 4,060 breaks the lower-high sequence and puts 4,066-4,074 back on the table. • An hourly close under 4,028 means the breakout failed. Then the old box comes back into play, with the middle around 4,000. • Anything in between is just noise until the press conference is done. First moves on Fed days often get reversed in the next hour. I'm not trying to guess the decision itself. I just want to know which side of 4,028 / 4,060 we close on afterwards.
