LIV Golf Adelaide is on the brink of being scrapped, with the Australian government handing the tour a new ultimatum. The tournament is a three-time World’s Best Golf Event winner, but it’s future now relies on LIV Golf keeping some stars.Anthony Kim was the winner of LIV Golf Adelaide this year, with the event known as the best on the entire tour – but it could be about to be scrappedAFPThe breakaway tour filed for bankrupty in September and since then, some of their biggest names have stepped away. Jon Rahm reached an agreement to leave earlier this month, with Ian Poulter and Tyrell Hatton among many others to depart. They are all expected to try and make a return to the European circuit with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour. However, despite losing some of their huge stars, LIV Golf, which was originally founded in 2023, is aiming to keep afloat by restructuring to LIV Golf 2.0.That restructure though, could end up seeing the calendar lose it’s best event in Adelaide in 2027.LIV Gold handed Adelaide ultimatumSouth Australian Premier, Peter Malinauskas, has stated that LIV Golf Adelaide will not go ahead if the standard drops in the field.Malinauskas wants Bryson DeChambeau and Australian star Cameron Smith to remain on the LIV roster, otherwise the government are not going to go through with being part of the restructure. He told Australian radio station SEN: “It’s tricky. LIV Golf are officially telling us that they are all systems go to be back here.“But we are monitoring it pretty closely.”“What’s happening with the players is going to be the most instructive outcome here,” Malinauskas added.LIV Golf Adelaide’s future on the tour could depend on whether DeChambeau decides to stayGetty“It’s very important to us they keep the likes of Cam Smith and Bryson DeChambeau in that playing roster; that underpins the success of the event. That’s something we are monitoring closely just to see how it unfolds.“We’re not going to go through with LIV unless they put on the standard of event they have put on in the past, which has been truly exceptional. “We’re going to know for sure in the next two to three weeks.”Are DeChambeau and Smith sticking with LIV?DeChambeau and Smith’s continuation on the LIV Golf tour is going to decide whether the event in Adelaide goes ahead. But are they both going to decide to stick around? Neither of them have announced their decisions on their futures as of yet, however, statements could come soon. LIV Golf investors BC Partners had set a deadline of Sunday, October 25 for players to commit the 2.0 restructure.
