A Hammers fan in the stands was reportedly constantly hurling abuse at former West Ham striker Lee Chapman. When he ran out of substitutes after one of his players suffered an injury, the former Tottenham boss decided to make an astonishing decision: he put on the disgruntled West Ham supporter for the final stages of the clash.Unbelievably, the supporter who came on, Steve Davies, went on to find the back of the net for the East London side in what would be his only appearance as a professional footballer. The film is set to be made on the bizarre story, starring Eddie Marsan, an actor in films such as ‘The Gentlemen’ and ‘Clayface’, as Harry Redknapp and ‘Mobland’ star Anson Boon as Steve Davies. The film is currently in production with director Ridley Scott’s company, Scott Free Productions, with Redknapp also set to have a cameo.Redknapp reveals why he brought on Steve DaviesSpeaking previously on The Jonathan Ross Show, the former Spurs manager himself narrated the crazy incident and why he decided to bring on the angry supporter.Harry Redknapp shared that he turned to the fan, Davies, as he was tired of the abuse he was hurling from the stands, and the 79-year-old conceded that Davies was better on the day than the former Hammers striker Lee Chapman.Redknapp said: “We started the game and there was a guy next to the dugout, a big West Ham fan. He had hammers tattooed on his arms, and he had the earrings in, hammers on them. And he started after about two minutes, he said, ‘We ain’t got that Lee Chapman up front again this year?’.“He kept on about Chapman all first half. He wouldn’t leave me alone. ‘He’s useless. Why are you playing him again?’ Anyway, at halftime I made five substitutions. So subs go on [and] I’ve got no more subs. After two minutes we get an injury. So now I’ve only got 10 men.“So I turned to him; he’s still shouting at me. I went, ‘Oi, can you play as good as you talk?’ He said, ‘I’m better than that, Chapman’. I went, ‘Come on then, get your gear on, we’ll have a look at you’. I’ve got to be honest, on the night, he was better than Chapman.”Davies said about his goal back in 2013: “I just hit it. It was like time stopped still. It was the greatest moment of my life. After that, I was exhausted. I was on 30 cigarettes a day back then. I had a couple of cigs and a couple of beers in the first half, didn’t I?”READ MORE: ‘Close to tears’ – Dele Alli and 10 Tottenham teammates react to Harry Kane’s Ballon d’OrThe post From Tottenham to the movies: Harry Redknapp is about to hit the silver screen appeared first on Spurs Web.
