Palaniswami in Madurai on Thursday.Addressing journalists at the Madurai airport, Mr Palaniswami said the State government has been functioning without a direction. “Chaos prevails in every department. There is no direction or clarity. Many departments and the officials concerned are unable to implement the programmes due to lack of coordination,” he charged.“Take for instance, electricity. Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar initially blamed the past governments for procuring power at high rates. This government, a few days ago, announced purchase of power at the highest rate ever in the country. After there was a hue and cry about it from the Opposition, the government dropped the idea,” the former Chief Minister said. According to him, this marked the beginning of the end of the TVK-led government. “The people suffer due to unannounced power cuts,” he charged.On the law and order front, Mr Palaniswami flagged the frequent murders in different parts of the State. “Grave crimes have shaken the confidence of the people. Under such circumstances, the Theni jail break incident has come as a major shock. Minister Nirmal Kumar takes pride in announcing that the police have secured all the escapees. It is a shame for the government and reflects its poor performance,” he said.Asked to comment about the DVAC searches at former DMK Minister K. N. Nehru’s residence and the arrest of former Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in an alleged bribery case, the AIADMK quipped, “probably, the CM may have been told that by detaining his political opponents in the prisons, he may win the Tiruchi East by-poll.”However, he felt the bypoll victory was not going to happen anymore as the people have come to know the real colour of the CM.He said soon, the AIADMK would emerge victorious and restore the lost sheen to Tamil Nadu.To a query, he said, in 2011, the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had promised to make T. N. a surplus power State and achieved it in three years. However, today, the TVK government’s inexperience and poor understanding of the demands have led the State to witness frequent power cuts, he said.The AIADMK, he believed, was intact. Since the last decade, the party has been functioning under his leadership. Leaders like TTV Dhinakaran (AMMK) were working on cordial terms. “The relationship is very smooth. There is no problem”, he asserted.However, when asked about the call to bring back former leaders into the AIADMK fold, Mr Palaniswami said, “some media people are keen to create fissures in the AIADMK.... This is not going to happen. All is well with the party”.Meenakshi templeLater in the day, Mr Palaniswami, accompanied by party functionaries, including former Mayor V. V. Rajan Chellappa, former ministers Sellur K. Raju and R. B. Udayakumar, visited Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple.On October 30, the AIADMK leader would garland the Muthuramalinga Thevar statue in Goripalayam and proceed to Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district, where he would offer homage on the occasion of Thevar Jayanthi.Published - October 29, 2026 08:57 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
