The Chicago Bears are going all in on trying to win a Super Bowl in 2026. The NFL’s second-oldest franchise has pulled the trigger on bolstering their defense by trading for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons in a huge effort to compete for their first Vince Lombardi Trophy victory since 1985. All-Pro DT Jeffery Simmons is now a member of the Chicago BearsGettyThe Bears parted ways with a 2027 and 2028 first-round pick, and a 2027 fourth-round pick in order to successfully land the 29-year-old, who has spent his entire eight-year career in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. Chicago also received a 2028 fifth-rounder in the deal. Although a hefty haul, the Bears do land a four-time Pro Bowler who has 44.5 career sacks, eight forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and 30 pass deflections. Through the first seven weeks of the 2026 NFL season, Simmons has four passes defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four sacks and 38 tackles (20 solo) to go along with six tackles for loss and nine QB hits. He has done so on a Titans defense that ranks 26th in the NFL in total yards allowed per game and sits at the bottom of the AFC South with a 1-6 record. Simmons now joins a Bears defense that ranks inside the top 10 in the NFL in total yards allowed (313.4 yards per game) and points allowed (20.4 points per game). On the other side of the ball, the Bears offense also ranks inside the top 10, ranking third in total yards per game (390.7 per game) and eighth in points scored (25.7 per game). This comes despite franchise star quarterback Caleb Williams having missed time due to a hamstring injury. With the former No. 1 overall pick now back healthy and under center, the 5-2 Bears are looking to ignite their charge for Super Bowl glory, and adding a piece of Simmons’ caliber on defense only betters their chances. However, some awkward conversations may have to be had when Simmons enters Halas Hall for the very first time. Simmons could be set for an awkward first meeting with Williams as Bears teammatesGettyThe former Titans star trash talked Williams before the Bears QB’s first career NFL game in 2024GettyThis comes after comments he made about his new quarterback prior to the Titans clash against Chicago back in 2024, which just so happened to be Williams‘ NFL debut. From enemies to teammatesDuring an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show in June 2024, Simmons was dishing out the trash talk to a then-rookie Williams way before the teams even met out on the field. “Painted nails. I can’t wait to say that to him,” Simmons said, referring to the former USC star’s hobby of painting his nails. “All the hype’s gonna be around [the Bears] of course… That also make me even talk more smack and boost me up a little more, get into a different mode, as well.”Whilst there was also some element of respect toward his opponent at the time, with him acknowledging that he was selected by the Bears with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft for a reason, Simmons later doubled down on his comments. “I feel like that against anybody that we play against,” Simmons said just days prior to the 2024 NFL season opener. “A little joke of course on that podcast about the painted nails, but I don’t care who I’m playing.Williams made waves by painting his nails in college, before being draftedGetty“It could be my best friend. When we step on the field, you my enemy. … I have that mindset to win no matter who it is. That was a joke in the podcast for sure, but I mean it. “My goal is to win, especially if I can get some one-on-ones in that game. My goal is to help my team get a win.”Of course, Williams would go on to lead the Bears to a 24-17 comeback victory against the Titans at Soldier Field, though he only completed 14-of-29 passing for 93 yard as he recorded a fumble and was sacked twice. Simmons would record a tackle for loss in the game. But Williams has developed into a superstar talent since then, leading the Bears to an 11-6 record and a playoff win in Year 2. In Year 3, he is looking to elevate not just his own game, but the team’s ceiling even further, and the addition of Simmons gives Ben Johnson’s team even more of a boost as they bid to reach Super Bowl LIX at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California for a Valentines Day date with destiny.
