The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is satisfied with the work of the Minority leadership in Parliament under Alexander Afenyo-Markin and has no plans to replace him.The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the party had not considered any change in the leadership, dismissing reports circulating on a flyer that another MP had been selected to take over as Minority Leader.Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, October 29, he said the party’s leadership was happy with the work of the Minority Caucus and would continue to support it.“The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he said.He accused those spreading the reports of attempting to create confusion within the party’s parliamentary caucus and urged the public to disregard the claims.“Those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create chaos or confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty Minority Caucus, they will not succeed,” he said.Mr Kodua said the party’s elected officers were “overwhelmingly satisfied” with the work of the leadership led by Mr Afenyo-Markin.“We are happy with the work they are doing in Parliament and we shall continue to support them. There is no meeting, there is no attempt to change the leadership in Parliament,” he added. He said the party’s support for the Minority leadership was part of its broader efforts to work with its flagbearer towards winning the 2028 general election.Mr Kodua also dismissed speculation about the selection of a running mate for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, saying the party had not taken a decision on the matter.Referring to Article 13 of the NPP constitution, he explained that the flagbearer was required to nominate a running mate in consultation with the National Council. He said the constitution did not provide for the selection of a running mate through a contest or campaign, warning party members and supporters against lobbying publicly for the position“Indeed, in selecting a running mate to our flagbearer, our constitution is very clear that the flagbearer, in consultation with the National Council, shall nominate the running mate. There is nowhere in our constitution that says that the running mate is selected through contest or through campaign. So people who are busily edging bloggers, edging people to promote them, the forum is wrong,” the General Secretary added.
