Splendora Scratched From Breeders’ Cup Distaff

Wait 5 sec.

One day after Grade I winner Scottish Lassie (McKinzie) came out of Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Keeneland, the race lost one of its top three choices when Boyd Racing and My Talla Racing's Splendora (Audible), last year's GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint heroine, was scratched by veterinarians from the nine-furlong contest. That and three other withdrawals were posted on X by Breeders' Cup.“They didn't think she was 100%,” trainer Bob Baffert told Daily Racing Form. “We're disappointed, but they have to be 100%. [The veterinarians] have a really tough job. The industry puts a lot of pressure on them. We have to work together.”The Maryland-bred 5-year-old, the 9-2 third choice on the morning line behind Nitrogen (Medaglia d'Oro) and Fully Subscribed (Tiz the Law), had amassed a record of 5-0-0 from six starts this season, four around two turns in predominately front-running fashion, including the GI Beholder Mile at Santa Anita in March and a 5 1/4-length romp in the GII Locust Grove Stakes at Churchill Downs Sept. 12. A field of seven remains for the Distaff.Breeders' Cup also announced the scratching of AMO Racing's Earth Song (Justify) from the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, with six remaining in the field as of Thursday; and Praying (Vekoma) from the GI Filly and Mare Sprint. Trainer Joe Sharp posted that Serena's Ghost (Girvin) would be taken out of the GI Juvenile Fillies Turf, adding “no serious issues, but will freshen up and focus on a 3-year-old campaign.”That defection allows Luminous Beauty (Flameaway) into the field and trainer Jena Antonucci told DRF that they would take up their spot. A new rider will be needed, as Tyler Gaffalione has a first call aboard Ballinea Star (Ire) (Space Blues {Ire}), who was purchased by David Fennelly–Mountmellick Farm for $650,000 during Wednesday's Keeneland Championship Sale.Trainer Aidan O'Brien told At The Races's Matt Chapman that Great Barrier Reef (Ire) (No Nay Never) picked up a stone bruise and is questionable for Friday's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, for which he drew gate 14 of 14.The post Splendora Scratched From Breeders’ Cup Distaff appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
