Coolmore America has announced that multiple Grade I and Dubai World Cup hero Magnitude (Not This Time), alongside the undefeated dual GSW Paladin (Gun Runner), have been retired from racing and will take up stud duties for the 2027 breeding season at Ashford Stud, the farm said in a press release on Thursday.Magnitude, who had been aimed at this Saturday's GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic, was unfortunately scratched on veterinary advice, bringing the curtain down on a productive racing career.Campaigned by Winchell Thoroughbreds and trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, the son of Not This Time proved himself on the global stage. His 4-year-old campaign was highlighted by a dominant, gate-to-wire victory over international superstar Forever Young (Jpn) (Real Steel {Jpn}) in the $12-million G1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan, followed by a powerful victory in the $2-million GI Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs. A brilliant 9 3/4-length winner of the GII Risen Star Stakes and a 9 1/4-length winner of the Iowa Derby at three, the Ron Stolich-bred colt retires as one of the highest-rated horses in the world.'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard,' Paladin joins the Ashford roster after an undefeated, albeit abbreviated, career on the track.Trained by Chad Brown, Paladin retires unbeaten in his three career starts. He established himself as a premier talent as a juvenile by winning the GII Remsen Stakes. At 3, he further cemented his status as an early Kentucky Derby favorite by capturing the GII Risen Star Stakes, defeating subsequent GI Kentucky Derby hero Golden Tempo (Curlin).Unfortunately, a non-displaced condylar fracture in his right front ankle sustained during a Florida workout this spring forced him off the Triple Crown trail and ultimately led to his retirement.Of note, Paladin went for a $1.9-million price tag as a Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select yearling.“We are absolutely devastated that Magnitude has been scratched, as he was training just like he was before the Dubai World Cup,” said Charlie O'Connor, Director of Sales at Ashford Stud. “However, we are incredibly excited to showcase two colts of this caliber at the stallion barn.“Magnitude has proven himself to be an absolute powerhouse on the world's biggest stages; and Paladin is a strikingly handsome, undefeated son of Gun Runner who showed immense brilliance before his unfortunate injury,” he said. “They are both exceptional physicals with the race records and pedigrees to match, and we cannot wait to showcase them to breeders.”Both stallions will be available for breeders to view starting this Monday, with their stud fees to be announced in due course. The post Magnitude And Paladin Retired, Headed For Stud Duty At Coolmore America appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
