Four Ekstraklasa teams in the Polish Cup round of 16 is... the worst result in history, as Wojciech Frączek, co-author of the Ekstraklasa Encyclopedia, confirmed to Sport.pl. This beats the record from the 1953–54 and 1955–56 seasons, when five Ekstraklasa teams each advanced to the round of 16 (1953–54: Polonia Bytom, Wisła Kraków, Górnik Radlin, Legia Warsaw, AKS Chorzów; 1955/56: Ruch Chorzów, Legia Warsaw, Górnik Zabrze, Wisła Kraków, Odra Opole). It’s worth noting that back then, Poland’s top league was much smaller, with just 11 clubs in the 1953–54 season and 12 in the 1955–56 season. Currently, as many as 18 teams play in the Ekstraklasa. https://www.sport.pl/pilka/7,65045,33106634,historyczny-pogrom-klubow-z-ekstraklasy-oni-zagraja-w-1-8-pucharu.html https://preview.redd.it/67aiqavhchyh1.png?width=894&format=png&auto=webp&s=c186a54f4c82cc10e4ae18aa3571ea60e92d7115 submitted by /u/Bartoni17 [link] [comments]
