I'm building PlantCare, an iPhone/iPad app for pruning decisions, mainly for outdoor roses, hydrangeas, shrubs, and small ornamental trees. The workflow asks for a whole-plant photo plus leaf and stem details, then has you confirm the closest supported plant guide before giving species-specific advice. You also pick a goal, such as shaping, removing damage, or improving airflow. From there it gives Cut, Keep, or Caution guidance based on the plant, season, and goal. The confirmation step is deliberate. If the match is uncertain or unsupported, the app asks you to choose a guide manually or stops. It doesn't mark an exact branch to cut from one photo. The scope is ground-level work on plants under 3 m, not ladder work or branches near utility lines. There's also a garden journal to keep photos, decisions, and reminders together. Photos are processed on-device, and no account is required. The initial check is free; Pro is a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Requires iOS/iPadOS 18 or later. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/plantcare-when-to-prune/id6765964740 I'm looking for feedback on that confirmation step: what would help you distinguish two similar-looking shrubs before trusting the guidance? submitted by /u/Medical_Outside7511 [link] [comments]
