Hi r/SideProject — I just released the core of HTTP Forge under MIT and wanted to share it with this community. @ http-fore/core is the engine behind HTTP Forge (a VS Code extension + CLI + MCP server for API testing). It's a Node/TypeScript library you can embed, build on, or contribute to: What's in it - HTTP + WebSocket + Socket.IO execution with a Postman-compatible pm.* assertion API - An MCP server exposing 60+ tools so AI agents (Copilot/Claude) can drive discovery → generation → execution → reporting - API discovery from source code for 6 frameworks: Express, Nest, Fastify, AWS Lambda, Spring, FastAPI — with golden fixtures and drift detection (git-hash + mtime) - OpenAPI import/export, test suites, flow orchestration, HTML/JUnit reporting - A CLI runner for CI/CD Why I open-sourced it - So "free forever" is verifiable, not just a marketing claim - So people can embed the engine or build new tooling on top of it - So discovery providers and MCP tools can grow through community contributions Architecture (for the curious) - Core is VS Code-free — ports/adapters + dependency injection; consumers (extension/CLI) inject platform services - One class per framework, registered via constructor injection - Bundled with esbuild (~784 KB, budget-gated); heavy deps (java-parser, typescript, ws) are lazy import()'d - 700+ vitest tests; golden fixtures lock discovery output Links - GitHub: https://github.com/hsl1230/http-forge.core - npm: npm install @ http-forge/core - VS Code extension (free): search "HTTP Forge" in the Marketplace I'm a solo dev and still actively building. Feedback, issues, and PRs are very welcome — especially new framework discovery providers and MCP tooling. Happy to answer technical questions about the architecture or the drift/self-maintenance design. submitted by /u/Cultural-Fail-6352 [link] [comments]
