PICU nurse transitioning to Cath Lab — interview tips and what to expect during a shadow day?

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone! I’m a PICU nurse looking to transition into the cath lab, and I have an interview coming up along with an opportunity to shadow in the department. I’m hoping to hear from nurses who currently work in the cath lab or who have transitioned from the ICU to procedural nursing. I currently work in pediatric intensive care, so I have experience with critically ill patients, cardiac monitoring, recognizing changes in patient status, and responding to emergencies. I’m interested in learning more about procedural nursing and developing my skills in a different environment. I’d love some advice on a few things: Interview prep: What questions should I expect during a cath lab RN interview? Are there specific clinical topics I should review beforehand? Transitioning from PICU: How transferable are ICU skills to the cath lab? What was the biggest learning curve for you? Shadow day: What should I pay attention to while shadowing? Are there good questions I should ask the nurses? Work-life balance: What is the typical schedule really like? How often are you on call, and how disruptive can call be? Pros and cons: What do you love about cath lab nursing, and what do you wish you had known before making the switch? I’m excited about the opportunity but want to make sure I go into the interview and shadow day prepared and with realistic expectations. Any advice, experiences, or things you wish you had known before transitioning into the cath lab would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! submitted by /u/Vast_Competition1686 [link] [comments]
