Hey everyone! I watch a lot of YouTube in languages I don't speak — mostly Spanish cooking channels and Japanese lessons. YouTube's auto-translate only works when a video already has captions, and honestly most of the stuff I wanted to watch didn't have any. So a friend and I built TranslateTube. It listens to what people actually say in the video, translates it, and plays it back with an AI voice, with translated subtitles on top. You can switch back to the original sound any time. It started as something just for us, and then other people started using it too. It works as a Chrome extension right on YouTube, there's an Android app, and there's a web player for your own video files (mp4, mov, webm) — no install needed for that one. It's definitely not perfect. Jokes and wordplay sometimes come out way too literal, and when someone talks really fast, the voice can go quiet for a couple of seconds before it catches up. We're still working on that. I'd really love honest feedback — what breaks for you, and which languages should we test more? https://translatetube.io PS. not trying to spam — if links aren't ok here, let me know and I'll remove it.🌎❤️ submitted by /u/Visual-Conflict-9566 [link] [comments]
