I made a free guitar fretboard explorer: any chord or scale across the whole neck, in 30 tunings including bass and ukulele

Wait 5 sec.

I've been building With Handlebars on the side: withhandlebars.com You pick a chord or scale and it shows every note of it across the whole neck, not one box at a time. It's also on iOS. It has 58 chord qualities, 168 scales and 30 tunings, including bass and ukulele, plus left-handed necks and sampled guitar playback. A few things I'd like feedback on: See why a shape works: switch between note names and intervals, or color the dots by role (root, third, fifth, seventh). Whole neck or one position: narrow the board to a single position, or walk the scale as a diagonal run or a sweep across the strings. Chords inside scales: lay any chord of the scale over it, e.g. the ii chord inside D Dorian. Progressions that move smoothly: play I–IV–V, ii–V–I and more in any key, each chord voiced close to the last, as a block chord, a strum or an arpeggio. Practice on the neck: quiz yourself (find a note, find a degree, name a dot), with a metronome and a drone that can pulse like a tanpura. Send the exact board: every board has its own link, so a teacher can send a student A minor 7 in standard tuning and they see the same thing. Notes are spelled for the key: G♯ major 7 has an F double sharp (shown as Fx), not a G. There's a simpler mode if that's too much. No account, no analytics, and it works offline after the first visit. The theory core and the web app code are open source (MIT): with-handlebars and with-handlebars-web What's confusing on first use? That's what I most want to know before showing it to a wider crowd. The guitar in the video is the MusyngKite soundfont (CC BY-SA 3.0), so the video is CC BY-SA 3.0 too. submitted by /u/Pleasant-Slip-6694 [link] [comments]
