The interactive ride will replace Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland, giving the movie its first dedicated ride in Japan while American parks wait for an equivalent announcement.NEW: Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue officially opens April 15, 2027 at Tokyo Disneyland. The world’s first Wreck-It Ralph attraction will send guests into Sugar Rush to stop King Candy, using onboard scanners to turn “Sugar Bugs” back into candy while earning points along the way. A Sugar Rush smartphone mini-game launches Jan. 12, Tomorrowland decorations arrive Feb. 18, Sugar-Lime Popcorn debuts March 17, and Sugar Rush Cinderella Castle projections begin on March 18. – @ScottGustin on XNEW: Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue officially opens April 15, 2027 at Tokyo Disneyland. Riders will join Ralph and Vanellope to restore them to their original forms, using scanners installed in their vehicles. The number and types of Sugar Bugs restored help determine each ride’s score. Results will appear on an onboard display and, for a limited time, in the Tokyo Disney Resort app; ride photos will be available for purchase through the app. There’s an important detail for guests who want those digital souvenirs: Open the app and enable Bluetooth before riding. The resort says photos can be purchased for 30 days after they’re taken. The ride lasts about four minutes and accommodates three people per vehicle, according to the park’s attraction page. It includes darkness, loud sounds and spinning, and the park says a child may sit on an adult’s lap.Credit: DisneyA Familiar Toy Story Ride Makes WaySugar Rush isn’t a ground-up ride replacing an empty lot. It reimagines the space previously occupied by Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, the interactive Toy Story attraction that closed on October 31, 2024.Inside the Magic previously covered the Buzz Lightyear closure and the original announcement of its Wreck-It Ralph replacement. Guests who remember aiming at targets with Buzz will recognize the interactive premise, but the new mission moves from a space battle into a candy-colored game. The change is specific to Tokyo Disneyland; it does not announce the closure of a Buzz Lightyear attraction in the United States.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortA New Shop, Popcorn and an Early StartPixel Prism, a shop next to the attraction, is scheduled to open April 15. The resort describes it as a digital marketplace with pixel-patterned flooring and a glowing pixel structure at its entrance; merchandise will include items inspired by the ride.Popping Station arrives earlier, on March 17. The new popcorn stand will serve Sugar-Lime Popcorn, a sweet-and-tart flavor inspired by the Sugar Bugs; the flavor is also planned for popcorn wagons throughout Tokyo Disneyland. The countdown starts January 12 with a smartphone mini-game that can be played at home and a special version in selected areas of the park. A themed sticker is also planned, though the operator says distribution can change or end without notice.Tomorrowland decorations follow on February 18, and attraction-inspired projections are scheduled to begin on Cinderella Castle on March 18. Visitors arriving before April 15 can therefore experience parts of the celebration without assuming the ride itself will be open.Credit: Nicholas Cole, FlickrWhat American Fans Should KnowThe first Wreck-It Ralph attraction gives fans a reason to look across the Pacific: The movie’s candy-racing world is getting a full park experience in Tokyo, rather than at Disneyland in California or Walt Disney World in Florida. That doesn’t establish that Disney has neglected its domestic parks. Disney has announced U.S. projects, including portions of Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios scheduled for 2027. The distinction is that Sugar Rush itself is opening in Japan, with no U.S. version included in this announcement. There’s also an ownership difference behind the comparison. Oriental Land Company owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort under license from Disney, so the Tokyo project should not be treated as a simple transfer of a U.S. park’s budget.Inside the Magic has also followed Tokyo’s Space Mountain Earthrise project, another part of the Tomorrowland transformation.Credit: DisneyWhat Happens Next for Tokyo GuestsTokyo Disney Resort’s attraction page currently lists a Standby Pass requirement and paid Disney Premier Access availability. Oriental Land’s announcement says a free Standby Pass or paid Premier Access may be required, so guests should check the latest park guidance before their visit rather than assume a particular entry option will always be available.Space Mountain Earthrise and Tomorrowland Plaza are also planned for 2027, but the resort has not given exact opening dates on its project page. Inside the Magic’s coverage of the wider Tomorrowland changes offers context for visitors planning around more than one opening. For now, April 15 is the date to watch for Sugar Rush and Pixel Prism. Guests planning earlier visits can follow the January game, February decorations and March food and castle offerings while checking the resort’s official updates for changes. The post Travel Warning: Disney Confirms Tomorrowland Closures Ahead of Historic 2027 ‘World First’ Opening appeared first on Inside the Magic.
