New electric ray species found: Dr M. V. Ramana Murthy, Mission Director of India's Deep Ocean Mission, has been honoured by the naming of a newly discovered electric ray after him. An IIT Madras-trained ocean engineer, he has worked in coastal research, desalination, marine technology and hazard management, including as director of the National Centre for Coastal Research.
