We have three incredible children under the age of six and somewhere along the way between raising kids and working full time, my husband’s addiction took over and we’ve been living in a chaotic hell for years. He’s not addicted to a specific substance, he goes through phases with various drugs and alcohol, using whatever he can to numb himself. I met with attorneys, therapists, and begged his family for help to no avail. He FINALLY hit rock bottom when his behavior escalated to the point that law enforcement was involved, he lost his job, we had an intervention, and he agreed to go to rehab. He’s only been there for a couple weeks and I was not prepared for the assumption from him and his family that everything is just fine now that he’s in rehab and isn’t it great he went and he will return home for a “second chance”. Absolutely not! Nobody in his circle has bothered to ask how I feel or what I want or offered financial support which we desperately need without his income. Thank god I have an amazing support system in my circle so I can continue to work but it’s a lot. I’m still in shock and survival mode. I always knew single parents were amazing but wow! I’m in no way prepared to allow his chaos back into this home. I’m a full time working mom, now on a single salary and I don’t even know how I’m going to pay bills and attempt to fix the financial mess he’s also left us with. I’m in therapy, support groups, contacted several attorneys, but I’m still so lost and have no idea what to do next. I have minimal alone time and limited mental/emotional capacity to deal with everything. If anyone’s been through something similar or has any words of encouragement I’d love to hear! submitted by /u/ThatLab5336 to r/whatdoIdo [link] [comments]
