Mikey Moore played most of the game on Wednesday in a thumping DFB Pokal win for Koln, but the Tottenham loanee was not at his best. While Moore has shown some promise in his first two months at Koln, the Tottenham man has not set the world alight. He has only one assist and is still waiting for his first goal for the German side.In fairness to the 19-year-old, he is playing for a struggling side, who have won just two of their opening seven Bundesliga games. The move to the German top-flight represents a huge jump in quality for the Spurs academy graduate, who excelled at Rangers last term, and by the sound of it, he may need more time to find his feet at Koln.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramTottenham loanee Mikey Moore disappoints in Koln’s thumping winKoln delivered what was their best performance of the season on Wednesday, thrashing Union Berlin 5-0 at home in the DFB Pokal to seal passage to the next round.Moore played 73 minutes and was the only attacking player for the home side who failed to register either a goal or assist. The German media spoke positively about the Tottenham youngster’s attitude, but were critical of his output on the ball.Geissblog said of his performance: “After being substituted relatively early against Schalke, his motivation was noticeable. However, Moore still couldn’t find his form that evening. His pass completion rate of 70 per cent was significantly below the Cologne average.“The young Englishman tried a lot, but the decisive plays eluded him. It was no coincidence that he was the only attacking player in the starting eleven to leave the field without a goal or assist.”Express gave him a similar review of Moore’s display, writing: “Tried to get into the game quickly and was agile. However, he often lacked assertiveness in challenges.“He was in good spirits and combined much better with (Said) El Mala and (Linton) Maina. One of his better games, but he was somewhat overshadowed by Maina and El Mala.”Why Spurs fans should not be concerned with Moore’s early struggles at KolnIt is worth remembering that Moore similarly struggled in his first few months at Rangers, and it was not until Russell Martin was replaced by Danny Rohl that the teenager started performing.Moore then came into his own in the second half of the season and was one of the best players in the Scottish League.Given the step up in quality to the Bundesliga, the Tottenham academy graduate will have a similar learning curve at Koln, which would be an important step in his development.READ MORE: Five questions we expect Roberto De Zerbi to answer ahead of Tottenham vs Crystal PalaceThe post ‘Lacked assertiveness’ – German media critical of Mikey Moore despite 5-0 Köln win appeared first on Spurs Web.
