Jake Paul kept a respectful tone when addressing Canelo Alvarez’s world title victory over Christian Mbilli. But the ‘Problem Child’ has suggested that he believes Alvarez did absorb a lot of punishment in the clash.Canelo outclassed Mbilli, and brought himself back into the mix as a world champion in elite styleThe Mexican legend banished the defeat to Terence Crawford from his mind to score an impressive points victory over Christian Mbilli. It saw the legend become a three-time super-middleweight world champion, and recapture his place as one of the 168lbs division’s elite right now.YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has always got a lot to say on the four division champion’s boxing career. The pair came so close to fighting each other in February 2025, before Alvarez decided to sign a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh. But when giving his assessment on the clash, Paul suggested he believes himself and the boxing icon will get their fight over the line.“Out of the ring for 13 months but still the same old Canelo. Respect,” he said initially on a social media post before pointing out a weakness. “Did take a lot of punches though. We will dance my friend, we will dance.”Paul is clearly still confident he can beat the 36-year-old who still has fantastic skills and boxing powers despite coming into the twilight stages of his time in the ring. However Alvarez is clearly motivated and has far more to offer the traditional ranks, before accepting a commercial blockbuster payday with Paul. What is next for Canelo Alvarez?Paul of course seems the unlikely option with the influencer-fighter having his own fight plans on Christmas Eve.Paul was impressed, but believes Canelo took too many punches, and called for a fight once againPFLAlvarez also remains tied down to his contract with Alalshikh and his final bout will come in 2027.Prior to beating Mbilli, plans were already being put in place for his return.Alvarez is being eyed to return in either February or March as part of a quickfire turnaround following his latest success. It is unclear if he will look to unify with titles seen as a motivation throughout Alvarez’s career.Only a fight with Osley Iglesias would really make sense, with the Mexican unlikely to rematch his now stablemate Jaime Munguia.A central alternative option is Hamzah Sheeraz, with the British star sat ringside for his victory.Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.He believes a fight with Alvarez makes sense, but he may not bring the value to the table having vacated the WBO belt.Chris Eubank Jr was previously touted as an option, and he too may look to return in the new year.
