Most small business homepages I see have the same problem: they open with "Welcome to our website" and make the visitor work out what's on offer. Before writing anything, I answer these in plain words first. What do you do, and for who? One sentence a stranger would understand. This usually becomes the headline or sits right under it. Where do you work? For local businesses the area belongs near the top, not buried in the footer. What should someone do next? Pick one main action (call, book, get a quote) and make it the same button everywhere. Why you rather than the next result? Something specific, like how fast you reply or what's included, beats "quality service". What proof can you show? Real reviews, photos of real work, any memberships. Put a little of it high up. What are people worried about? Price, mess, timings. Answer the common ones on the page instead of waiting to be asked. Once those six are written down, the copy mostly writes itself and it reads like the business rather than a template. I turned this and the rest of a launch checklist into a free 8 page PDF (planning, homepage, UK legal basics, trust signals, local search and launch day checks). It's free on my Ko-fi, though Ko-fi may ask for an email to send the download: https://ko-fi.com/s/a73a02e12d Happy to share more if it's of interest. submitted by /u/Dexi1310 [link] [comments]
