They reportedly told the officer that the young woman had stolen $5,000. The conflict then shifts from a physical struggle to a tense conversation with law enforcement. The uploader claims that police eventually arrested the daughter, while the mother and the rest of the group left without facing any charges. Onlookers appeared to reject the group’s attempt to frame the violence as a parenting tactic. However, the women seemed to stand by that explanation throughout the video, as the argument with shoppers at the Kings Plaza Mall reportedly continued. New York law treats stealing property worth more than $3,000 as grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony. If prosecutors charged and convicted her of the alleged $5,000 theft, she could face up to seven years in state prison. However, prison time is not automatic, as a judge could also impose probation, fines, or restitution instead.
