For anyone outside the UK: a vidiprinter is the scrolling teletype of football scores that used to run on TV on a Saturday afternoon. Every goal, red card and full-time score, typed out line by line as it happens. UK people would remember it on Grandstand with Des Lynam. Earlier this year I made a World Cup site that got about 114K visitors (and around $3k USD in Buy Me A Coffee donations) in a month off a couple of Reddit posts, which convinced me to build something permanent: Scorr (scorr.live): live scores, fixtures and tables for 30+ competitions. The momentum from the World Cup site definitely didn't carry over as I hoped (but sort of expected this would happen!). Hard to compete with the established big boys. Almost all of my Google traffic (about 30k out of 40k impressions in the last month) now comes from people searching “vidiprinter”, not “live scores”. So I’ve leaned into it and built a free embeddable widget. Pick your leagues or a single team, choose dark or light, copy one snippet into WordPress, Squarespace, Wix or wherever. No sign-up, no tracking, no ads in it. If your team is quiet midweek it shows the next kick-off and recent results, so it never looks dead. Builder: scorr.live/vidiprinter-widget Stack, for the curious: Cloudflare Pages and Workers (with KV storage), a small Node fetcher on Railway pulling from a football data API, and plain HTML and JavaScript (no framework). I build it with a lot of help from Claude. The site itself has evolved over a few months, numbers are creeping up but nowhere near where the worldcup site got to. Happy to answer questions on any of it. I’d especially love feedback on the widget: what would make you actually put it on a site? Do you like the formatting or is it too cluttered etc. submitted by /u/Coolcato [link] [comments]
