Hey everyone! 1.0.11 is out π From now on every release gets one full changelog post like this one, everything in one place. The little teardrop posts along the way are staying too, for those of you who like to be kept in the loop. The short version: Search can now find files by what's written inside them, you can pull the text off anything on your screen, and both run on your own PC with no internet. On top of that there's a long list of things you asked for and an even longer list of dead bugs. If you followed the last two posts you've seen parts of this, here it is all together. Already using Glassline? The update reaches you through the Store by itself. New things that would change how Glassline behaves start switched off, and the What's new pages after the update give you a switch for each one. New here? Glassline turns the Windows 11 taskbar into a glass menu bar at the top and a dock at the bottom, like on a Mac. You get Search on the Windows key, Control Center, your calendar and the weather right in the bar. Quit it whenever you want and your taskbar comes back exactly as it was. You can try it in your browser first. Search that reads your files This is my favourite one. Type what a document is about, say "electricity bill", and Search finds it even if the file is called scan_0042.pdf. Windows only does this on Copilot+ PCs, Glassline does it on any PC. Turn it on and it goes through your documents slowly in the background. Your PC stays cool and quiet, it waits while you play, and on a laptop it waits for the charger unless you tell it otherwise. You can see how far along it is right in Search. It also stays quiet on short searches like a sum or an app name, so no random documents popping up. It knows Glassline too. I gave you so many options that it was getting confusing, so now you can just type "make the dock smaller" and you get Dock size. Text off anything on your screen Press Alt Shift Q and drag over whatever you want, even a picture or a paused video. You get the words with four buttons: Copy text, Translate, Read aloud and Search the web. If you know Click to Do, it's that, with no Copilot and no Copilot+ PC needed. You'll find it as Text and screen actions in Settings, Shortcuts. Translations keep your paragraphs and lists, those red spelling lines under words don't get in the way anymore, and the little strip stays in front after you pick a language. Your stuff goes nowhere That was really the point of this update for me. Reading your documents, pulling words off the screen, translating and reading aloud all happen right there on your PC. There's no account, no cloud and no Copilot, and your bills, your work files and whatever's on your screen stay with you. Two things download, once each. Finding files uses a small model, 176 MB, when you switch it on, and it's that small so it runs on any PC. Translate grabs each language you pick. After that you can be on a plane with the Wi-Fi off and it all still works. Only two things ever go online: the Search the web button when you press it, and looking up a single word if you turn that switch on. More in Search Apps by kind: Search and Launchpad can group your apps the way Windows' own Start does, games with games, creative apps together and so on. Type a kind and you get its apps A Search icon, for when you don't feel like pressing the Windows key: a magnifying glass in the menu bar, and an icon you can put in the dock. One of you asked for this through Feedback π Translations, money and sums each get their own heading in the results (translations used to sit under Calculator) Translating into Spanish speaks in tΓΊ now Dock Your drives live in the dock now, like on a Mac. Plug in a USB stick, a memory card or an external disk and there it is. Click to open it, right-click to eject, drop files on it to copy them over. Unplug it and it's gone. Your own icons: right-click any app or folder in Launchpad, Change Icon, pick a picture, and the dock uses it too. Another one that came through Feedback π See how many windows an app has on its icon: as a number, dots or a badge (Settings, Dock). The count stays inside the dock Anything can stand on either side of the divider, and the Recycle Bin can sit among your apps Add Divider and Remove Divider in the dock's right-click menu Run as administrator in an icon's right-click menu Hold a file over an open app's icon and its window comes forward, so you can drop the file right on it Web apps from Chrome and Edge get their own icon and name instead of showing up as the browser Choose how far a floating dock sits from the screen edge The dock gets out of the way at once when a video goes full screen Icons stay crisp as they grow, and the far end of the dock holds still, like on a Mac The Calendar in a second display's dock opens Today on that display Folders stand out on a light dock now Launchpad All those helper shortcuts programs install (command prompts, Windows Tools...) go into folders now, the same ones Start uses Hide any app from its right-click menu, and bring it back from Settings, Dock, Hidden apps Smoother swipe with two fingers on the touchpad Windows and displays Gaps around maximized windows: switch it on in Settings, Dock and a maximized window keeps a small gap on every side and its round corners, clear of the menu bar and the dock. You pick the gap above and below and the gap at the sides, and it updates the moment you change it. Drag the window by its title bar and it goes back to its own size Zoom the whole screen: hold the keys you pick (Ctrl Alt, the Windows key or Ctrl), turn the mouse wheel, and everything zooms in around your pointer (Settings, Accessibility) A different wallpaper on each display, right in Settings, Appearance Menu bar and Control Center Still like Windows' own Start menu? No judgement π The logo on the far left of the menu bar can open it now, and a right-click can give you Windows' own menu of the Start button (Settings, Menu Bar) A slider for how long the menu bar waits before hiding. All the way left and it's gone the moment your mouse leaves A Control Center button that stays in the menu bar if you want it A brightness slider for each display in Control Center Touch screens The first tap on the dock opens the app One finger scrolls lists and Settings, and Launchpad swipes its pages A dock hidden at the edge comes out for a finger Bigger menus for touch (Settings, Accessibility) Lighter and faster There's a new Performance page. Glass blur off makes the glass solid, which gives the graphics card less to do on older PCs, and while a game from your Games list fills the screen, Glassline rests. Don't expect miracles though, Glassline is already really light so you'll barely notice these. They're for really, really old PCs, and if yours needs them I'd love to know how it's running Windows 11 at all :) But I like you having the option. Settings It warns you when Windows Spotlight or a slideshow is changing your wallpaper Switches that can't do anything right now stay in place, faded, and tell you why What's new has a clip for every item with a switch Bug fixes Dock Apps asking for attention kept bouncing forever. Now it's three bounces, then the orange dot Steam kept in the dock wouldn't open once closed to the tray Shortcuts with their own options (like Firefox -P) brought the open window forward instead of starting Clicking the icon of a minimized Open With box closed it With an administrator program in front, the dock could keep an app you never asked it to Games that call themselves UE4 now show their real name (Wuthering Waves) Notepad showed up as Notepad.exe Shortcuts in a dock folder showed .lnk in their names Window previews could stay on the screen, or leave an empty frame after closing one Closing a window from its preview made the other previews flicker Files dropped on Edge while it was closed didn't open, and then it opened behind File Explorer A second click on the Calendar closed Today and opened it again With Automatically hide on Always, the dock could stay away with Settings or another app in front The dots stayed white when a live wallpaper turned light Launchpad Magnifier and a few other apps showed up in a white frame The name of a dock app could show on top of Launchpad Moving an app into a folder left a copy outside it Tapping the page dots or a folder closed Launchpad Moving an app in or out of a folder messed up the order with pages by kind The first opening could stall for a moment Uninstall flashed Windows Settings' Home page first. Now it goes straight to Installed apps Menu bar The app panel could get stuck on the screen Windows Terminal was called Windows Terminal Host The app name lit up under your mouse with the App panel off, but a click did nothing The keyboard language menu did nothing with the desktop in front Wallpapers chosen in Settings took up to half a minute to reach the bar's colours (dark text on a dark bar, not great) Text colour for each side was wrong with a solid bar. Now it also tells you when it can't apply and why The note about a taskbar on a side came up every time a display came back, for those of you with a display below the main one Settings It was missing from Alt Tab and stayed on top of every window It didn't scroll with the mouse wheel until you moved the mouse again The first click got lost if your mouse came in quickly, it could even go through to the desktop Some switches jumped away from under your mouse when a line appeared above them Turning Calendar events off made Notifications jump under your mouse It stayed closed after a restart it asked for itself, like changing language. Now it comes back on the page you were on Starting Glassline a second time now brings Settings to the front When opened from outside, it sometimes ignored your typing Game switches in Settings, Games kept showing on after you turned them off The HWiNFO question did nothing, whichever answer you picked The Everything, HWiNFO and MSI Afterburner rows didn't update when you opened or closed those programs Follow Windows' contrast themes didn't stay off after a restart, and switching a theme off left the dock with the theme's icons Fields lost letters typed right after a click or after Ctrl A Options shown on several pages appeared several times in Find a setting Turning off Windows key opens Search and the dock lost a shortcut you had recorded The Everything search app wasn't found when installed with winget or its MSI In the small selectors (Motion, Glass...) it was hard to see which one was picked on light glass Lists of choices showed two ticks for a second while closing The Wallpaper row kept the old picture's name when you changed the wallpaper outside Settings The "More" tip covered the menu it had just opened What's new opened from About now takes you back to About Everything else "Translation is turned off" did the wrong thing when you hit Enter The genie effect poured a dark plate into light glass Glassline's own restarts could end Lively wallpapers, it thought Explorer had crashed Control Center listed one graphics card twice in some setups (virtual display drivers, the ones game streaming tools install) If Windows refuses Use my location, it now tells you and gives you a way to fix it, and Windows' location page doesn't pop up on its own a minute later anymore Uninstalling with three displays could leave things behind, like two background tasks still running Big thumbnails hold on to less memory Most of this came from you, here and through Feedback. Thank you, really, and keep it coming β€οΈ Investigating These need real monitors in front of me, and right now I only have my laptop π None of them are known bugs, except one that showed up once and never again. If you have more than one monitor and you see any of these, please tell me through Feedback π Games on two displays: moving a game to the other display after it started, a game on one display and work on the other, the dock over a game only on that game's display, the bar and dock stepping aside only there Windows' panels on a second display: Start and Search moving only that display's dock, and the notification pane Second display's own taskbar on a side: the note about it, and the menu bar taking its corner back when it moves Three displays: once, the first time two extra displays came on, Windows stopped keeping space for the bar and dock until Explorer restarted. It hasn't come back Brightness per display: a laptop screen next to a monitor, two monitors together, and a monitor that doesn't answer The note about a taskbar on a side, with a real monitor or a KVM switch Location and Windows Update icons under Other controls: the Microphone one works, these two I couldn't trigger yet Get it Glassline is $9.99, once. No subscription, no account, every update free. Try it first: in your browser Microsoft Store: Glassline What's coming next: Roadmap Want to help? It's just me making this, so you telling people about it means a lot. If you like Glassline, share it with a friend or post it somewhere people would enjoy it π Which one are you trying first?
