I have worked as a cardiac step-down nurse for six years, yet I do not enjoy the role. Certain aspects appeal to me, such as reliable employment; the field is resistant to AI and offers strong pay. I value caring for patients who welcome attention, and I appreciate teaching and learning from colleagues and physicians. Teamwork and completing complex tasks to assist others bring satisfaction, as does finding creative solutions. What I dislike is the pressure of keeping someone alive. Handling a patient who shifts suddenly into a code is difficult; I resent unit cattiness and the exclusionary clique, along with bullying among nurses. I dislike being the intermediary for everyone else, especially when others can perform tasks poorly that we cannot. I hate serving as a target for doctors, administrators, hospital leaders, and family members. There is more, but I aim to keep this brief. People suggest becoming a nurse practitioner for the income; perhaps, but I do not want a well-paid position that leaves me unhappy. Nursing has taken a lot out of me physically, and I’m just wondering if I hate parts of nursing. Would becoming an NP be the wrong choice? I’m low-key leaning towards getting my MBA and getting the heck away from the medical front lines. I would fine using my nursing knowledge to pivot into something else. And I’d love to get my MBA to get a nice, paying office job. I like to learn some skills such as python or six sigma, and data analyst and to hell with bedside nursing. I’m thinking about getting a MBA with a concentration in operation and strategy and perhaps get a certificate in health informatics. And just go from there. Anybody want to talk me out of going towards the path of the NP or maybe want to discuss my second choice the MBA? Have any advice regarding other certificates that will help me pivot the help up out this ghetto ass job field? Bro I want to leave. How do you feel about a green belt? Six sigma? Please help. TLDR: I hate nursing and I’m wondering if becoming a nurse practitioner would be any better, or should I just go and get my MBA and get my desk job and be at peace. submitted by /u/Snoo_62111 [link] [comments]
