Velvetone: I rebuilt the YouTube Music web player as a Chrome extension (folders, synced lyrics, EQ, crossfade, true shuffle)

Wait 5 sec.

Velvetone is a free Chrome extension that reskins music.youtube.com and adds what I was missing as a daily listener: playlist folders and custom icons, time-synced lyrics (also right on the cover), a six-band EQ, real crossfade, volume normalization and a true shuffle across the whole playlist. A few things I enjoyed solving: - Crossfade with a single player: the extension keeps the audio YouTube Music already streamed and plays the end of the outgoing song itself, so nothing is downloaded twice - The sidebar collapses and resizes with compositor-only animations, because the page has ~10k elements and relayouting it every frame stutters - Style fixes ship as a signed config, so a YouTube page change can be fixed in minutes without a store update No account, no analytics, no ads; settings stay in the browser.
