Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States has expressed condolences to the family of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was shot dead in the Bronx, New York, describing his death as a tragedy that has touched the entire nation. In a condolence message issued on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the government and the people of Ghana, the Ambassador said the country stood in solidarity with the bereaved family following the teenager’s death.Addressed to the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, and his family, the message described Javits’s death as tragic and untimely, noting that no parent should have to endure the pain of losing a child under violent circumstances. The Ambassador said Javits had moved to the United States barely a year ago after his father brought him there in the hope of securing a good education and a brighter future. He described the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death as deeply disturbing, particularly in view of reports that Javits had experienced racial bullying at school.“It is imperative that all relevant circumstances be examined carefully and impartially,” the message stated. The Ambassador called for a thorough investigation by the appropriate law enforcement authorities to establish the facts, identify those responsible, if any, and ensure that justice is served. He also stressed the need to protect children from bullying, racial discrimination and violence, regardless of their race, nationality or background.“Javits was not merely a son to his family; he was a young Ghanaian whose life and future mattered to our nation,” the message said. The Embassy assured the family that it shared in their grief, acknowledging that no words could adequately console parents who had lost a child. It added that the thoughts and prayers of President Mahama and the people of Ghana were with the family during the difficult period. The Ambassador prayed for God to grant the family strength and comfort, and for the soul of the deceased to rest in perfect peace.
