Democrat Sen. Ed Markey said this week that his party has lawyers already drafting an emergency case for the Supreme Court because they believe President Donald Trump will try to interfere with the midterm elections, and said people must be ready for a national strike and millions to protest on Election Day.The 80-year-old senator accused the president of trying to perpetuate an “electoral crime,” despite years of his party claiming that it is a grave sin to question the integrity of our election system. In a wild joint interview with GBH News and Boston 25 News, Markey stated, “We have lawyers who are already drafting the emergency case to be brought to the Supreme Court of the United States before the election and then in the immediate aftermath.”Markey added that thousands of lawyers are being readied for deployment to election stations in key states.“We have lawyers who are already drafting the emergency case to be brought to the Supreme Court of the United States before the election and then in the immediate aftermath,” Markey announced. “We’re also in a process of having thousands of lawyers get ready to be deployed all across our country in the key states at those election stations in state after state around the country.”“We have to be ready on Election Day to have a national strike. We have to be ready to have millions of people come out of their homes to be protesting what Trump is trying to perpetrate as an electoral crime on our nation’s history,” Markey claimed. The senator specifically called for workers, unions, and businesses to shut down in a manner similar to the response in Minneapolis after the deaths of Alex Freddi and Renee Goode.Markey claimed that the Trump administration could deploy ICE agents on Election Day or invoke the Insurrection Act to send the military into communities. The career politician described Trump as “growing increasingly desperate” because of polling and campaigning in traditionally Republican states such as Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa, and suggested the president might try to prevent Democrats from being seated to avoid an impeachment process.“I don’t think that there’s anything beyond the pale that he would not consider,” Markey claimed.Markey said that if the president activated the Marines, the Army, and ICE on the Friday before the election, the public should “rise up” over the weekend so that millions would be in the streets by Election Day, allowing the Supreme Court to see public outrage if an emergency petition were filed. He called the scenario “very possible.”WATCH:Republican challenger John Deaton called the remarks “reckless and dangerous.”“A United States Senator should be lowering the temperature, not calling for a national strike and shutdowns in the streets a week before an election,” Deaton said.Deaton added that Massachusetts voters deserve leaders “who respect the rule of law, trust the voters, and settle differences at the ballot box,” and that after 50 years in Washington, this is what Markey has become.“Massachusetts needs a senator who will calm things down, not stir them up.”The post WATCH: Sen.
