[Payload] ps5-smbd: your PS5's /data and /mnt as a Windows network share

Wait 5 sec.

I wanted to drag files on and off my PS5 from Windows Explorer without opening an FTP client every time. So I wrote ps5-smbd, a small payload that runs an SMB server on the console. What it does - Shares the console's /data and /mnt as \\\data and \\\mnt, read and write - Shows the console in Explorer's Network view, under the name you set in Settings > System - \\ and \\ both work, and the IP alone lists the shares - SMB 3.0.2 with signing, so Windows 11 accepts it without any policy changes - Runs in the background as ps5-smbd.elf, with no app to keep open Install - Load ps5-smbd.elf like any payload (elfldr on port 9021, or your payload manager) - Or with PayLoader (aka the easy way) (v00.001.001 required! > https://github.com/Marice/ps5-payloader): it's in the Signal suite repository, one press on Cross under "Network". - Then in Explorer, open the console from the Network view, or type \\, and log in with ps5 / ps5 Please read before you use it - Anyone on your network who knows the login can change or delete anything under /data and /mnt. That includes saves, payload settings and passwords other apps keep there. Only use it on a network you trust - Fine for your own home network I guess. - The login is fixed (ps5 / ps5). Windows 11 won't connect to a share without one. - I've tested it from Windows 11 against my own console. macOS and Linux clients should work, but I haven't tried them. Speed Measured on my own setup: PS5 and a Windows 11 laptop on gigabit Ethernet, copying one large file. ┌───────────────────────────────────────────┬────────────┐ │ Direction │ Speed │ ├───────────────────────────────────────────┼────────────┤ │ PS5 → PC (read) │ ~100 MB/s │ ├───────────────────────────────────────────┼────────────┤ │ PC → PS5 (write) │ ~75 MB/s │ └───────────────────────────────────────────┴────────────┘ ┌────────────────────────────┬───────────┐ │ For comparison, same cable │ Speed │ ├────────────────────────────┼───────────┤ │ FTP download from the PS5 │ ~105 MB/s │ ├────────────────────────────┼───────────┤ │ FTP upload to the PS5 │ ~6 MB/s │ < This is the ftp-server from ETAHEN └────────────────────────────┴───────────┘ Under the hood The SMB protocol comes from libsmb2 by Ronnie Sahlberg. A few patches to its server are in the repo, and I plan to send them upstream. The file system, the share list, the name lookup (NetBIOS, LLMNR, mDNS) and the Network view announcement (WS-Discovery) are written for the PS5.
