Switch 2 on 20.4.x, never connected to the internet. Stay on this firmware or go for SeedSow?

Wait 5 sec.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the Switch 2 hacking developments over the past few days. I've tried to piece together what I've read to figure out what actually makes sense for someone on older firmware. Feel free to correct me if I've misunderstood anything. My setup: Switch 2 on 20.4.x, never connected to the internet or Nintendo's servers. No games, demos or cartridges used. Completely stock, nothing installed. One stock, unbanned Switch 1 that I could softmod if needed. One already hacked and banned Switch 1. What I've gathered so far: ns2jb / SmileBASIC The exploit works, but requires SmileBASIC as an entry point. Since I don't have anything installed on my Switch 2, this isn't really an option for me right now. https://gitlab.com/pepsipu/ns2jb WebKit and supernag The WebKit port could remove the need for SmileBASIC, which is particularly interesting in my case. https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xeg1mt/switch_2_jailbreak_ported_to_webkit_and_works_on/ From what I understand, supernag could still block browser access even if the firmware itself is vulnerable. I've read that 20.5.0 and below might not be affected by some of these restrictions, but I'm not sure how much of that is actually confirmed. https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xgdj4d/new_developments_looks_like_those_ok_version_2050/ Since my Switch 2 has never been online, I'm assuming it hasn't received any information about newer firmware versions. Not sure if that actually makes a difference for WebKit or supernag, though. SeedSow Lullaby / Artemis With the recent announcements, SeedSow looks interesting, especially the possibility of having an offline entry point once the modified save is installed. https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xiy3g8/announcement_regarding_seedsow_lullaby_exploit/ https://github.com/DialingSpoon527/seedsow-lua-editor There's also a guide explaining how to inject the entry point using a hacked, unbanned Switch 1 through NSO cloud saves: https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xj6e1s/guide_remote_seedow_lullaby_entrypoint_injection/ Since I have an unbanned Switch 1 that I could softmod, I should theoretically be able to follow this method. The problem is that I'd apparently need to update my Switch 2 and risk getting my Switch 1 banned. That's potentially two things to give up just to get SeedSow working. Local save transfer I also came across this discussion about transferring saves locally without using NSO cloud saves: https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xggbj1/seedsow_lullaby_exploit_for_owners_of_hacked/ If I understood correctly, this still requires recent firmware versions, a Nintendo Account and an internet connection. So my already hacked and banned Switch 1 probably wouldn't be useful here. I'd have to use the unbanned one after softmodding it. Even if local transfer works, it doesn't solve the issue of having to update my Switch 2. Why stay on 20.4.x? I've seen several recommendations telling people on 20.5.0 or below not to update: https://www.reddit.com/r/switch2hacks/comments/1xewr3z/how_to_prepare_your_console_a_quick_guide_for_the/ With the recent WebKit developments and the possible differences between older and newer firmware versions, I'm leaning towards keeping my current firmware. So what would you do in my situation? As far as I can tell, I have two options: Keep my Switch 2 on 20.4.x, completely offline, and wait to see what happens with WebKit or other entry points. Update for SeedSow, softmod my unbanned Switch 1 to prepare and transfer the save, and accept the risks involved. Right now I'm leaning towards the first option. I'd hate to permanently lose 20.4.x if a compatible method comes out later, especially since my console is still completely untouched. But with how quickly things are moving, I'd rather hear from people who have been following the technical side more closely. Would you stay on 20.4.x in my situation? Have I missed anything important about WebKit, supernag or SeedSow? And is there anything worth preparing now without updating? I figured the answers might also help others who have kept their Switch 2 on older firmware without ever connecting it to the internet. Thanks ! submitted by /u/Equin0x-Z [link] [comments]
