So, the obvious answer is because it's a horror movie and it's more scary to see people being tortured than it is to see them having pleasure. So I mean this more in, what the nerds refer to as an 'in lore' explanation. If Pinhead and his ilk really are supposed to be the 'explorers of the furthest possible regions of experience' and really are "angels" to some, why is the only thing that we them do is the body horror stuff? Why do we never see them having sex, or experiencing other forms of pleasure? This is why I actually don't like the BDSM connection with this franchise, because it's a very surface level understanding of what BDSM actually is. I've been to clubs and parties where people do some pretty hard physical stuff with each other, and I know that there are people who love to experience pretty rad levels of pain to get off. But the other major thing that you see BDSM players play with is power dynamics, surrendering and accepting authority. I've not seen all the hellraiser movies, but I've never seen something where any sort of exploration of power is really played with. I've certainly never seen a Cenobite take on the submissive role. And there's also a lot of fucking in BDSM circles, along with really powerful moments of intimacy that can actually be deeply nurturing. And that emotional high is, for many, the thing that they do BDSM for. Don't get defensive, I'm not saying this is offensive to BDSMer's or anything. But it does mean that anytime i see the cenobites associated with BDSM it makes me go "Do you really understand this practice?" So yeah, why don't we also see Pinhead snort coke or suck cock?
