Amine Gouiri vs Tottenham strikers: How does De Zerbi’s latest target compare?

Wait 5 sec.

Amid reports linking Tottenham with a move for Amine Gouiri, Spurs Web has taken a closer look at the statistics to compare the Marseille striker with Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke. There is no denying that Tottenham Hotspur would have loved to bolster their attack even further in the summer transfer window despite the additions of Savio and Omar Marmoush. This was made pretty clear as the Lilywhites tried to sign Iliman Ndiaye on deadline day, only for the move to fall through as they could not offload Richarlison.Roberto De Zerbi spoke about how close Tottenham were to another forward addition but failed in their pursuit. He said: “Richarlison he decided everything alone. He spoke with me at the beginning of pre-season. He told me his idea, his desire was to leave.“In the end we went to bring another striker and like I said at the start of pre-season I want to keep only the players who want to stay with pride and the right passion to stay here. Then for other problems it’s not my business, it’s the job of the club. I can’t say nothing because I didn’t decide anything.“The message of Richarlison from the beginning of pre-season has been very clear and I accepted that. I don’t know if there is an offer from Turkey. I don’t know if the club accepted this offer. I know there was an offer before the end of the transfer market but he did not accept that offer. For me nothing changes.”Ndiaye instead moved to Manchester City and has begun to settle in under Enzo Maresca. However, the wide forward was not the only striker Spurs considered. It is understood that De Zerbi was also keen on bringing in Marseille’s Amine Gouiri, who was mooted as a target for Spurs in the dying days of the summer window, but again no deal materialised. This link is not surprising, as Amine Gouiri featured under De Zerbi at Marseille, with the forward scoring an impressive 17 goals and providing six assists under the Italian. But with Dominic Solanke standing as the only out-and-out striker after Richarlison was frozen out, Spurs continue to be linked with forward options ahead of the winter window.Five players are understood to have been shortlisted by the Lilywhites and, while Gouiri is not on that list, there is every chance Spurs return for him in the future. With that in mind, Spurs Web has now crunched the numbers to see how Gouiri compares with the forward options at Tottenham.Photo by Christophe SIMON / AFP via Getty ImagesTottenham target Amine Gouiri compared with Spurs forwardsThere is no denying that, for at least the first five games of the season, Spurs were abysmal, with results not going their way.Their forwards also suffered, with neither Solanke nor Omar Marmoush finding the back of the net during that period. Solanke only grabbed his first goal in matchweek six, while Marmoush scored in matchweek seven against Coventry City. That leaves the two players who have occupied the centre-forward role with just one goal each. But how does this return compare with Gouiri? In Ligue 1 with Marseille, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a tremendous start to the 2026-27 season. While the Tottenham forwards have struggled for goals, the Frenchman has had no such issues, with Gouiri already finding the back of the net five times in eight games while also providing two assists. To put that into perspective, Amine Gouiri has more than doubled the combined tally of Marmoush and Solanke at Tottenham, who have managed just one goal each so far this season. At this rate, the Frenchman is on course to beat his league goals tally from last season, when he managed eight goals in 22 appearances.Spurs link easy to understand as Gouiri shinesWith numbers such as those, it is easy to understand why Tottenham are interested. However, it is worth noting that Gouiri is doing this in the French league, which is not as tough as the Premier League. In the past, while with Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2024-25 season, Marmoush also put up similar numbers, scoring 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances while also managing 10 assists. In that same season, Marmoush managed 28 goals and 17 assists in 51 appearances, but since his move to England he has not hit those heights.Marmoush’s best Premier League output stands at seven goals in 16 appearances. Last season he only managed three goals.Solanke, on the other hand, has hit 19 goals in a single Premier League campaign, doing so at Bournemouth before his move to Tottenham. So it is not really about the players being unable to hit high numbers, but about being consistent and maintaining those numbers.Looking at the underlying numbers of the three players, interestingly, Solanke and Gouiri lead the way in three key metrics each, although the Frenchman comes out on top for goals, conversion rate and expected assists.MetricMarmoushSolankeGouiriWinnerNon-Pen Goals22.229.469.1GouirinpxG9.872.734.5SolankeGoal conv %22.722.788.1GouiriAerial %5.250.522.7SolankeTouches in box6.261.351.0SolankexA8.820.682.5GouiriOff duels won93.329.944.8MarmoushMinutes554430721GouiriREAD MORE: Harry Kane could follow in Clive Allen’s footsteps with transition into a brand-new sportThe post Amine Gouiri vs Tottenham strikers: How does De Zerbi’s latest target compare? appeared first on Spurs Web.
