After passing the NCLEX, I was told I either sign the 2-year contract or forfeit the job. I was told by our recruiter that it was optional, so imagine my surprise when the lady in HR told me I don't have a choice. This put me at a disadvantage because I turned down other interviews. I also really needed the money, so I signed the contract (2 years for $10k, which was taxed). Now I'm a little over my 1-year mark, and I honestly just want to do anything else besides work on neuro stepdown/PCU. My passion is women's and children's health, and I would prefer to do Mother Baby, NICU, or even L&D. I would even try the OR and PACU. I just do not enjoy the patient population at all. I give good patient care and do what is expected of me, but every time I try to convince myself to be happy, it doesn't work. I clock in, see my assignment, and all I feel is complete misery. We typically get four patients, but sometimes it's five. My co-workers are very helpful, and we work as a team, so I am grateful for that part. I'm just miserable, and I have 8 months left before I fulfill my contract. I could transfer within the hospital system, and that would still meet my requirements for the contract, but I don't want to be at this hospital at all. It requires an hour drive, and I really want to work at the hospital closer to home. The hospital at home has two full-time mother baby positions, but I'm currently stuck in my crappy contract. I'm just planning to finish up the eight months and putting in my two weeks' notice. I think that is better than giving $10k back. I'm just hoping it's a patient population issue and that there is some form of nursing that I enjoy. If it's true that I do hate nursing, I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't be miserable at my job for the rest of my life. My plan was to consider NP, but I don't even know about that anymore. Any advice? submitted by /u/Brilliant-Ad-4288 [link] [comments]
