Google Sheets now supports compact form layout for pivot tables, which keeps multi-level pivot tables readable while reducing excessive horizontal scrolling. You can choose a layout directly from the pivot table editor:Outline form: each row field is displayed in its own columnCompact form: all row fields are nested in a single column, with indentation and inline expand/collapse buttons showing the hierarchyCompact form support also comes with enhanced Microsoft Excel import compatibility. Previously, importing Excel files containing compact form pivot tables into Sheets would convert them to outline form, changing the structure of the pivot table. Now, the source layout is preserved on import and maintained if the file is exported back to Excel.Switching a pivot table to compact form layout in Google SheetsGetting startedAdmins: There is no admin control for this feature.End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about customizing pivot tables in Google Sheets or creating and using pivot tables in Google Sheets.Rollout paceRapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) started on October 22, 2026 Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 6, 2026AvailabilityAvailable to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accountsResourcesGoogle Docs Editors Help: Create & use pivot tablesGoogle Docs Editors Help: Customize pivot tables
