I want to create my own collectible figures but have absolutely no idea where to start

Wait 5 sec.

So I’ve recently become really interested in making my own collectible figures. I’d love to eventually design original characters, print them and maybe even turn it into a little business with my own designs. The problem is that I have zero experience with 3D modeling or printing. Literally starting from nothing. I’ve read the FAQ’s advice about starting with Blender. What I’m unsure about is how to focus that learning on sculpting static collectible figures, rather than characters for animation or games. Would you start with Blender’s sculpting tools, Nomad Sculpt or something else for that particular goal? For people who sculpt figures to print, what did you wish you had learned earlier about making a digital sculpt work as a physical object? Things like thin details, splitting a figure into pieces and making those pieces fit are all new to me. I love the look of high quality figures you see in stores and that’s the kind of finish I’d love to achieve. Visible printing lines really put me off. I’d like to understand which parts of getting a clean result need to be planned in the model itself. Would love to hear how you guys started and what a sensible first original figure project would be. submitted by /u/WantedWonder [link] [comments]
