Phil Parkinson is a Wrexham legend, having remarkably led them from non-league to the Championship – but is his time up?The Red Dragons are struggling in the second tier so far this season after four consecutive years of unprecendented success.Club legend Parkinson is coming under pressure at Wrexham amid a poor start to the Championship seasonGettySince the 2022/23 campaign, Parkinson has led to the club to three promotions and a seventh place finish in the Championship. However, things have seemed to come crashing down so far this term, with his side winning just three of their 12 games, which leaves them currently sitting 17th in the table. And the manager is now facing pressure for the first time as Wrexham boss, with his future questioned throughout the slow start. So, could his five-year tenure at Wrexham be coming to an end? Co-host of the Rob Ryan Red podcast and Daily Mail journalist, Nathan Salt, thinks so.‘It’s not going to last much longer’Salt explained to talkSPORT that he sadly believes that Parkinson could be on his way to the exit door at the Racecourse Ground. He said: “I think we’re sleepwalking to quite an awkward divorce. “Having friends of mine that have been involved in divorces, they’re pretty rubbish, and it feels like we’re in the midst of that.“It’s bad now, it could obviously get worse, we’re not in the bottom four. But it just seems to have gone a bit stale now.“And look, he has deserved a lot of time and he’s built up a lot of credit in the bank – is this just a really bad season, can they go with a sporting director and improve it in the summer?“It just feels like we’ve run out of road for Phil Parkinson and it’s not going to last too much longer, in my opinion.”Parkinson’s Wrexham were beaten 2-0 by Blackburn last time out, leaving them 17th in the Championship after 12 gamesGettyWill Wrexham actually sack Parkinson? Parkinson is the third-longest serving manager in English football, having taking charge of Wrexham in July 2021. Across his time as boss, he has achieved a historic three consecutive promotions from non-league to the Championship. And in the club’s first season since 1982 in the second tier last campaign, they finished just one place outside of the play-offs.Due to the rise, Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney hold a huge love for Parkinson, with the latter labelling him the ‘lynchpin of this entire thing’ when speaking in February. In that same interview, he remarkably stated that Parkinson has a job for life at Wrexham for what he has done for the club. McElhenney said: “Ryan and I talk all the time, and I just don’t see a scenario where Phil Parkinson gets fired. It doesn’t make any sense.Reynolds and McElhenney adore Parkinson for leading Wrexham’s rise, so will they be able to get rid of him as manager?Getty“He has been the architect, the creator of this. From our perspective, he’s got the job for life. Unless he finds another job he wants to go off and do, he’s our coach. He’s our manager. He’s our guy.” But could they go back on their word now that the Red Dragons are looking to potentially be fighting against relegation?
