The once Magnificent 7 are not so magnificent, but they still are large cap technology movers

Wait 5 sec.

The once-dominant Magnificent 7 are looking a little less magnificent. However, their substantial weightings in the broader indices mean they still command plenty of attention—and have considerable influence over the direction of the overall market.Today’s trading highlights the increasingly mixed performance within the group. The major technology indices are moving higher:Nasdaq Composite: Up near 0.90%.Nasdaq 100: Up near 1.25%.Nevertheless, three of the seven stocks are trading lower, with Meta down around 1.38%, Apple lower by roughly 1.40%, and Alphabet declining about 1%.The group is no longer moving together. That makes the technical picture for each stock more important, especially with three major earnings announcements approaching:Microsoft and Alphabet: Wednesday after the close.Amazon: Thursday after the close. In the video above, I take a look at each of the Magnificent 7 stocks purely from a technical perspective. What is the bias? Where are the nearby risk levels? What targets need to be broken to give buyers—or sellers—more control?Microsoft: Between the moving averages ahead of earningsMicrosoft is trading just above its 200-hour moving average at $519.76, but below its 100-hour moving average at $532.42.Trading between those moving averages leaves the shorter-term bias neutral. Buyers have support to lean against below, but they still have work to do above.A sustained move above $532.42 would tilt the technical bias more in favor of the buyers. Conversely, a break below $519.76 would give sellers more control. Until one side breaks and stays broken, those moving averages provide the boundaries for traders ahead of Wednesday’s earnings.Alphabet: Sellers have control, but an important support area is in playAlphabet shares are trading lower by around 0.92% at $317.30, after reaching a low today of $316.60. Last week’s break below the 200-day moving average at $341.27 gave sellers more control, and the price has continued lower. The next key support area comes between $311.42 and $314.90. That zone is an important short-term barometer for buyers and sellers. Hold above it, and buyers have an opportunity to stabilize the price ahead of Wednesday’s earnings. Break below it, and there is room to roam to the downside. On a recovery, $324.25 is the first upside target, followed by the 200-day moving average at $341.27. The sellers remain in control. Buyers need to defend support and start reclaiming those overhead levels to shift the bias.Amazon: Broken support becomes overhead resistanceAmazon fell below its 100-hour, 200-hour and 100-day moving averages last week. Those breaks shifted the technical advantage toward the sellers. The stock is trading near $248.46, below the moving-average resistance zone extending from the 100-day moving average at $251.76 to the 100-hour moving average at $256.65.For buyers, reclaiming that zone is needed to improve the technical picture. Until then, rallies remain vulnerable to sellers leaning against those overhead levels. On the downside, the next support area comes between $244.42 and $246.45, followed by the 200-day moving average at $243.30. Those are the levels buyers will want to defend ahead of Thursday’s earnings.Nvidia: Buyers try to reclaim the 100-day moving averageNvidia is trading higher by around 2.67% at $216.57, taking the price back above its 100-day moving average at $214.41 after breaking below it last week. That puts the moving average back in focus as a risk-defining level. Stay above, and the buyers have a platform for a further recovery. Fall back below, and today’s improvement loses some of its significance. On the topside, last week’s high at $222.30 is the next important target. The falling 100-hour moving average is also near that level, creating an additional hurdle. The buyers are making a play, but they need to hold the reclaimed support and then get through that overhead resistance.Apple: A pullback within a stronger technical pictureApple remains one of the stronger charts in the group, with the price still near its all-time high despite today’s decline of roughly 1.3%–1.4%.A down day alone does not reverse a bullish technical bias. The more important question is whether the selling breaks meaningful support and gives sellers greater control. For now, the broader technical picture continues to favor the buyers.Tesla: A strong rebound approaches the next hurdleTesla is trading sharply higher, up around 6.14%, with the rally taking the price back above its 200-day moving average at $386.14.That break is a positive development for the buyers. Staying above the moving average would help preserve the improvement. However, the next hurdle is close. The 50% midpoint of the decline from the late-2025 high to the July 2026 low comes in near $398. Today’s high reached $397.27, just short of that retracement. The buyers have made progress, but they need to get above—and stay above—$398 to strengthen their case. Otherwise, the rebound risks stalling at a logical resistance level. With earnings approaching, the technical levels give traders a framework for judging the reaction. The announcements can provide the shove. Whether the price breaks and holds above resistance—or falls through support—will help determine who takes control next.
