Disneyland Closes Landmark Sleeping Beauty Castle to Guests at 3:05 P.M.

Wait 5 sec.

Sleeping Beauty Castle is the landmark at the heart of Disneyland, and it’s the spot where many guests stop for photos. On Monday, just days before Halloween, reports say the holidays arrived there early.Credit: DisneyFor Disney fans, the holidays often have a television connection. According to the report, there’s traditionally one special that airs during Thanksgiving weekend and another on Christmas Day, generally anchored by holiday parades from Walt Disney World or Disneyland.According to those reports, the area in front of the castle has been set up for filming holiday specials for ABC, complete with a stage, a photo prop, and cast members guarding the setup. We’ve attributed every claim to its source, labeled speculation as speculation, and noted what isn’t known. Here’s what’s been reported, and what visitors should know today.Reported Details at a GlanceCredit: DisneyWhere: In front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, reportedly closed offWhat: Filming for ABC, with signs reading Disney Parks Holiday SpecialFirst filming: Apparently 3:00 PM, or around 3:05 pm per Matt DesmondFinal filming: Reportedly 10:30 PMWho can watch: Cast members said anyone in the park was welcomeAir dates: Not givenWhat Matt Desmond PostedCredit: armadillo444, FlickrMatt Desmond (@DisneyScoopGuy) shared a photo of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland with signage stating that the Christmas special will be taped at Disneyland today. The first performance is expected to be around 3:05pm and they’re already letting people wait behind the rope!”The entire area in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland has been closed off in preparation for the first concert of the Disney Parks Holiday Special! In front of the castle, staging has been set up for filming Christmas specials for ABC.The stage appeared to be set for filming a performer and band, the report says. It adds that Mike and Matt, described as friends of Daps Magic, stopped by Monday morning and took photos and videos of the setup. The Prop and the SignsAs guests stopped by the castle for photos, the report says, they found a special photo prop that says The Wonderful World of Disney Holiday Spectacular, placed to ring in the holiday season just days before Halloween.Signs indicate the filming is for the Disney Parks Holiday Special, according to the report. The signs don’t say when the filming will air. They do say that what is filmed will air on ABC.Cast Members and the CrowdCast members were on hand to guard the stage and to tell guests that filming would take place later in the day, the report says. They said anyone in the park was welcome to watch.Desmond’s follow-up says people were already being allowed to wait behind the rope. The Times, Read CarefullyThe reports give slightly different details. The Daps Magic report says the first filming apparently begins at 3:00 PM, with the final filming at 10:30 PM. Desmond’s post says the first performance is expected around 3:05 pm.The words “apparently” and “expected” matter. They tell us the times come from signs, cast members, and observers, and not from an official announcement we’ve seen. We’re presenting both as reported, and the information we have doesn’t explain the five-minute difference. Two Names for One Event? You’ll notice the event appears under different names. Desmond refers to the “Christmas special” and the “Disney Parks Holiday Special,” the signs reportedly say Disney Parks Holiday Special, and the photo prop says The Wonderful World of Disney Holiday Spectacular. The information we have doesn’t say how those names relate, and we aren’t treating them as interchangeable. We’re repeating each as it appeared.Could There Be Two Specials? The report notes that, traditionally, there’s one special that airs during Thanksgiving weekend and another on Christmas Day, generally anchored by holiday parades from Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Because there’s filming during the day and at night, it says, it’s very possible that this is for both specials Disney generally offers. That’s the report’s speculation. Nothing we’ve seen confirms how many specials are being filmed or when they’ll air.Where It’s Reported to AirAccording to the report, the signs say what is filmed will air on ABC. It adds that, traditionally, whatever is broadcast on ABC for the holidays arrives on Disney+ the following day. That’s a description of past practice, not an announcement about this year, and no air dates were given. If You’re at Disneyland TodayFor visitors, the practical points come from the reports. The area in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle has been closed off, according to Desmond, so don’t count on your usual castle photo spot. Cast members told guests that anyone in the park was welcome to watch, and people were reportedly waiting behind a rope.If you want to see a performance, the reported times are around 3:00 to 3:05 PM for the first, with the last at 10:30 PM. Since those times are reported and not officially confirmed, check the Disneyland app for any updates, and keep your plans flexible. That’s general advice, not a statement about Disneyland’s procedures. What We Don’t KnowWe don’t know when the specials will air. We don’t know who is performing. We don’t know how many specials are being filmed, or how long the castle area will stay closed. And we don’t know whether the filming schedule will change. Were You There? Are you at Disneyland today, or did you see the setup in person? Tell us in the comments what you noticed, and let us know if you managed to catch a taping. We’ll update this as more details come in.The post Disneyland Closes Landmark Sleeping Beauty Castle to Guests at 3:05 P.M. appeared first on Inside the Magic.
