Convalescence home keeps me on edge and is making me reconsider my career path

Wait 5 sec.

Im a 21(f) CNA who’s planning on going to a career college to become a LPN. I chose bedside care because I felt like it was my passion to help vulnerable people they way other nurses have for me. I’ve always kinda been a people pleaser which is why I thought becoming a cna wouldn’t that bad of an idea. I like making my residents happy. Waking them up, doing their hair, picking out outfits it’s fun to me. I’ve been doing this since February this year and I wanna say up to April it wasn’t that bad, that was when I was assaulted by a resident and sprained my knee. Everyday now I walk with a slight limp. I take more ibuprofen than I probably should just to move around let alone sit down without yelping in pain. I feel like I gave up a lot just to get here and I’m willing to give up more just to be a lpn. I hardly have time for my friends and I don’t go out anymore. I’ve come in on my off days and stayed back late to help, yet nothing gets better. The other week I had a resident who I was pretty unfamiliar with care wise and only knew he was disrespectful with staff so ofc I had to ask questions just to familiarize myself. He said how he had a bowl movement and wasn’t able to make it to the bathroom. when I went to go check, he wasn’t wearing briefs and was fully naked. I had prepared the water and soap and asked if he was abled to begin wiping. He looked at me confused and yelled how it was my job to wash his ass and how I was lazy to for doing so. I tried to explain that I was just asking if he could and if he couldn’t I would just do it. He threw the towel at me and asked to see a supervisor and so I brought her. I left the room so they could talk and she came back to me saying how if a resident says they don’t wanna clean themselves then I should just do it. I really don’t know why but it just doesn’t sit well with me but I just said ok and moved on. Today I had helped a nurse who had him and went to offer his tray I saw he was awake a didn’t say much but here’s your food and left. He was awake and I left. I came back 20 mins later collecting breakfast and started calling me a bitch because I didn’t wake him I think. I couldn’t tell because it was hard to understand him. I asked if he could take a deep breath and calm down so I can help him but he just kept going. I got my rn supervisor and basically the same conversation happened. I just left while feeling like shit I wanted to punch a window because of incidents that happen everyday. I’m not sure about what to do , I like my job and my coworkers but nothing else changes I’m so stressed and all the older adults in my treat it like It’s nothing. What should I do? submitted by /u/Blobyis_asimp [link] [comments]
