I just started a med surg job at HCA, I have 3 years experience. When I say these last 2 weeks have been an absolute nightmare, I had no idea a hospital could be this bad. We don’t have a charge nurse, no one knows what they’re doing, I see med errors daily. Patients complain daily. I’m still technically on orientation. I brought all of these issues to my manager yesterday and she basically said she will put me with another preceptor next week. My preceptor did not even assess her patients. The main thing I needed help with was the charting and she never reviewed my charting… and contacting the doctors. There’s only one NP at night and she never responds. I was going to just quit because I feel like my license is at risk at this place. I can’t trust my coworkers at all. The technicians fake baths, and never round. We spend 30 minutes everyday just figuring out the assignment because we never have a charge nurse. The ER doesn’t call report on patients before bringing them up. The other day a patient was brought up by ER on a different floor and they were coded shortly after. They didn’t make it. I saw a position open at another location for women’s med surg.
