I built a way to deploy Discord bots to your own VPS straight from GitHub

Wait 5 sec.

Hey all, I'm Liam, and I'm building ServerOS with one other person. It's a panel for managing servers you already have. The problem: when people outgrow free bot hosting, the usual advice is "get a cheap VPS". Then you have to SSH in, install Node or Python, set up pm2 or systemd, work out restarts, and do it all again on every update. Most people just want their bot online. What I built: we just added Discord bot templates (discord.js, discord.py and DiscordPHP). It works like this: Get any Linux VPS, such as Hetzner, OVH, RackNerd or a free Oracle box. Run one command on it to connect it. Pick a template, point it at your GitHub repo, and paste your bot token. It builds the bot in a container, starts it, and restarts it if it crashes. The token is kept in a hidden field and reaches the bot as an environment variable, so it stays out of the repo. The Python template also works with Pycord and nextcord, and includes FFmpeg and Opus so voice bots work. If the bot crashes on start, the deploy fails and points you to the logs instead of pretending it worked. The interesting technical bit: the deploy used to treat every app as a website and check that a web page responded, which no bot ever does. So the daemon (open source, written in Rust) now checks apps without a web page differently: the bot has to stay running for a few seconds without restarting. Where it's at: it's live with a 14-day free trial, then £5 a month for one server. It also does monitoring, backups, logs and OS updates for whatever else you run on the box. I'd like feedback on: - Is "bring your own VPS" a dealbreaker compared with free bot hosts? - Does £5 a month feel fair for this? - Anything confusing on the site? serveros.com/apps submitted by /u/KnownObligation9934 [link] [comments]
